I adore Susie Larson’s writing style. It is warm and personal, sweet and conversational. So, when I discovered her newest book had been released, I couldn’t wait to read it… “Your Powerful Prayers: Reaching the Heart of God with a Bold and Humble Faith” was published by Bethany House in the fall of 2016, and as the title reveals, is focused entirely on the purpose and value of prayer in the life of a Christian.

In “Your Powerful Prayers”, Susie takes the process of talking to God through prayer and digs deeper into its numerous facets, chapter by chapter. Some of the topics she discusses include: Perspective, Endurance, Truth, Forgiveness, Promises, Humility, Confidence, Perseverance, and more. Each of these chapters are placed into one of three sections: God, Your Fortress; God, Your Father; and Jesus, Your King. Each chapter (topic) begins with an inspirational quote and Scripture verse followed by a warmly personal narrative filled with anecdotes from Susie’s life. Related Scripture verses and sometimes a deeper look at a corresponding Bible story are also included. Next come a blessing, and then a prayer. Following is a prompt to write your own personalized prayer on the subject, a Powerful Word Quote, and your choice of personal or group reflection questions. Remember, all of this is in EACH chapter!

As you can see, a lot of wisdom is packed into this little 217 page book. Susie’s words warm her readers from the heart, and you can’t help but be uplifted – no matter what your season of life. Her words inspire hope, even though lately I haven’t seen a lot of the prayer results she (or rather, God) promises will come. “Your Powerful Prayers” encouraged me not to give up, and even though it is sometimes disheartening to read about the miraculous results of other people’s prayers when that is not a reality in my life, Susie’s words helped me to trust, and have faith that I am God’s heir, and that is something that will always be true, no matter what. If you are looking for a boost in your prayer life, I highly encourage you to read “Your Powerful Prayers”. You will never regret it.
