An Exciting Resource for Christian Entrepreneurs – Guest Review by Hayley

A new addition to the non-fiction market has been released through Baker publishing, and is entitled “Called to Create: A Biblical Invitation to Create, Innovate, and Risk” by Jordan Raynor.  It is written especially for Christian entrepreneurs who want their work to feel more like a calling and less like a job.

“Called to Create” takes us through the vital aspects of a Jesus-driven career in entrepreneurship, with chapter titles including:  “The Goodness of Work,” “Discerning Our Calling,” “Why We Create,” “What We Create,”“The Purpose of Profit,” and several more.  It is obvious even just from the introduction that much time and research was placed in the writing of “Called to Create,” and this becomes particularly clear in the numerous stories of the lives, successes, and failures of over 40 Christian entrepreneurs and businesses including TOMS Shoes, Chick-fil-A, Johann Sebastian Bach, and C.S. Lewis.

Many valuable ideas and lessons are sure to be taken from “Called to Create.”  I found it difficult to relate to in many places, because I approached it without being aware that it is very business-oriented in it’s concepts.  Since I am not looking to start a business in the near future, it did not apply to me at a very high level.  I still took away some valuable ideas to be sure, but I don’t think that I would be considered the target audience of the book.  Thus, while not all of the book applied to me, I definitely believe that “Called to Create” will be an amazing resource and well worth reading for others who are looking for a fresh, and faith-filled perspective on running your own business.

I am grateful to have received a copy of this book from Baker Books Bloggers, free of charge, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
