I adore any book with Kimberley Woodhouse’s name on it, and her “Secrets of the Canyon” novels have been some of my very favourites from the start.  “A Mark of Grace” is the third and final book in the series, and brings the saga to a beautiful and memorable conclusion.  While I was reading, I found myself thinking often about this story as I went about my daily tasks – and after I finished the book I was still pondering it for days afterwards!  That, in my opinion, is a sign of a well-written book.  

“A Mark of Grace” tells the personal tale of a character who has played a very significant role in the previous two books in the series – and whose story ended with a terrible cliffhanger at the end of the second book.  Ruth Anniston has proven herself a strong and faithful woman and wonderful friend to all, but now her faith and strength is about to be tested in seemingly insurmountable ways as she heads into the challenge of a lifetime.  Will the ‘marks’ she faces ultimately be ones that lead her to God and His redeeming love, or will her path first lead her into a dark night of the soul?  

Meanwhile, the beloved El Tovar Hotel faces what may be the destruction of all it has stood for over the years, and chef Frank Henderson is left doing his best to hold the pieces of both the hotel and Ruth’s life together.  

From the first page to the last, this story captured my imagination and heart, as it wove the threads of the trilogy together into a truly satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend this lovely work of Christian Historical Fiction, but I do suggest reading the previous stories in the “Secrets of the Canyon” series first, if you haven’t already.
