A Perfect Book for Any Dog Lover – Guest Review by Hayley

I love inspiring stories, especially when they are true.  That being said, I’m also a BIG dog lover having only gone a few weeks of my entire life without a canine companion.  “Second Chance Dogs”, then, was an easy choice of read for me, as it is a feel-good collection of true stories of “the dogs we rescue, and the dogs who rescue us.”

With short chapters, this book is great to just pick up and read for a few minutes when you have the time.  Each chapter is a different story from dozens of contributors including Melody Carlson, Lauraine Snelling, and many more.  Some stories are humorous, others touching, and all will bring warmth to your heart.

So far, I have not read all of the stories in this book, but I am glad to say that I have not yet come across one with a sad ending.  I often stay clear of sad animal stories as they are, for me, just too painful, which makes the feel-good vibe of “Second Chance Dogs” all the more appreciated.

My favourite story so far is called “A Racer’s Second Chance”, about a former racing greyhound.  I love how the contributor’s strong connection to animals shone through very obviously in this story of a dog who can outrun horses.

“Second Chance Dogs” is a great choice for any dog-lovers bookshelf.  It would be a great book to set out on your coffee table too, as long as no wagging tails sweep it onto the floor!

I received this book courtesy of Revell Publishing, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
