I am so delighted with the new women’s Bible study series from Moody Publishers! The latest treasure I have found within the series was written by Erica Wiggenhorn, and is entitled “An Unexplainable Life: Recovering the Wonder and Devotion of the Early Church”. In this 10-week study, readers delve into the book of Acts, specifically chapters 1 through 12. As Erica explains about Acts, “(it) is the story of Christ’s mission becoming reality in the lives of his followers. To study it is an invitation for it to become your reality and mine.” Continue reading
When a highly respected Christian author (who has written dozens of books that have inspired and transformed the lives of women of all ages for many years) pens a new volume that is being described as her “legacy work”, I think it is worthwhile to take a look at it…wouldn’t you agree? Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, a wise author who clearly strives to align her writing with God’s will and His Word, has released a new book from Moody Publishers entitled “Adorned: Living Out the Beauty of the Gospel Together”. Based on the book of Titus in the Bible, and specifically the Titus 2 mandate for women, Nancy’s words shine a spotlight on the beauty, insight, and wisdom of living life in step with “God’s good and beautiful plan”. I adore Susie Larson’s writing style. It is warm and personal, sweet and conversational. So, when I discovered her newest book had been released, I couldn’t wait to read it… “Your Powerful Prayers: Reaching the Heart of God with a Bold and Humble Faith” was published by Bethany House in the fall of 2016, and as the title reveals, is focused entirely on the purpose and value of prayer in the life of a Christian. The title of a non-fiction book does not always convey the full purpose and content of the book itself. In the case of a new book written by Scotty Smith and published by Baker Books, however, the title sums up the content perfectly… What is this book? It is called, “Every Season Prayers: Gospel-Centered Prayers for the Whole of Life”. Continue reading
Have you ever tried reading a book that had a strong message and worthwhile intentions, but you just couldn’t get into it? That was the case for me with Dr. Larry Crabb’s new release, entitled “A Different Kind of Happiness: Discovering the Joy That Comes from Sacrificial Love”. Without question there are many jewels of wisdom found within the pages of this book, but at times the language feels so deep and lengthy that those gems are difficult to uncover. Perhaps a slow and thoughtful reading is what is needed, with plenty of time between chapters to ponder and consider the author’s message… Continue reading
Called to Pray: Astounding Stories of Answered Prayer was written by award-winning author and popular speaker Linda Evans Shepherd, and published by Revell in the later portion of 2015. As the title suggests, this book is filled to overflowing with examples of dynamic, unexpected, and miraculous answers to prayer in the lives of ordinary people. What did all these people have in common? They simply had the faith to heed God’s call to pray, and witnessed extraordinary events in their lives as a result.
Without question, this book is an inspiration and an invitation to pray more often, for more people, and in every situation that we find ourselves. Conveniently divided into ten sections with titles such as “Called to Pray for Protection”, “Called to Pray for Needs”, “Called to Pray for Encouragement”, etc., the book holds dozens of stories that bring the power of prayer to life in vivid detail. My personal favorites were Continue reading
Beloved singer/songwriter, worship leader, author, and speaker Darlene Zschech has written her fourth book about a topic certain to be fascinating to many readers… Worship Changes Everything: Experiencing God’s Presence in Every Moment of Life was published by Bethany House in the fall of 2015, and is also accompanied by a beautiful song album entitled “In Jesus’ Name”. Without question, the words contained within the book are an insightful portrayal of the true power and blessing of living a worship-filled life, though naturally it is not without a few negative points as well.
Three of the best facets of this book include: Continue reading
