Imagine a treasure chest being delivered to your doorstep one day. After staring in wonder for a moment, you carefully lift open the lid, and gasp at the treasure inside – dozens and dozens of keys! Each one is labelled with a little description of what that key will unlock, and after a moment you realize that each one is meant to open a door to a different world. Charming and Simple – Give it a Try!
Do you enjoy poetry, especially short poems with universally applicable ideas and themes? If so, I invite you to give a new book by a new author a try. ‘Fits of Tranquility’ by Robert Lampros is described as ‘a book of poetry and prose about hope, healing, perseverance, and joy, as well as faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and falling in love.’
Containing over 20 unique poems and short stories, this book ranges in topic from inspiring images of nature to thought-provoking stories filled with charming dialog and everything in between. With some portions, the intent of the author is very clear while at other times the meaning is more vague, leaving readers to bring their own perspectives to the words. A few of my favorite selections include: ‘Verdure’, ‘For What It’s Worth’, and ‘Invisible Arms’. Continue reading

Today, one of the often-overlooked modes of storytelling is poetry, which the dictionary defines as ‘a literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm’. Doesn’t this sound like a treasure trove for readers in search of deeper meanings and messages? And yet many avid readers steer away from poetry, thinking it too difficult and abstract to understand, and perhaps too boring to be enjoyed. Certainly this was the category I fell into, until I read a book entitled Bleeding Heart, Continue reading
