Step Back In Time To Sweetwater Crossing

As you probably know, Christian Historical Fiction is my favorite genre hands-down.  More specifically, stories with a traditional western setting during the 1800s are my go-to choices.  So Amanda Cabot’s writing is always appealing to me, and when I saw that her new series entitled “Secrets of Sweetwater Crossing” is set in a little Texas town where love grows even as mysteries threaten to divide, I knew I wanted to give it a try! You Won’t Be Able to Put It Down – If You Dare To Pick It Up!

I don’t know how she does it… Jaime Jo Wright never fails to deliver a story that is simultaneously haunting yet redemptive, atmospheric yet spiritual, and macabre yet beautiful.  Talk about a fascinating juxtaposition of themes!  The Premonition at Withers Farm” is one of the most gripping novels I’ve read in a long while, as the mystery and murder sweeping through a small town in the year 1910 brings mayhem and unexplainable intentions.  The unexpected part?  It seems to be happening again, in the same town, but this time in the present day… Continue reading

A Beautiful Story Featuring A Very Special Character

I don’t know how she does it, but Stephenia H. McGee’s new release from Revell is so vivid and real in my imagination that it feels more like a movie than a novel!  The Secrets of Emberwild” is a beautiful, sweeping, and unforgettable story that I adored from start to finish, and if you enjoy Christian Historical Fiction it should definitely be high on your to-read list as well.   Continue reading

Now My Summer Is Complete!

I know I’ve said it before, but I’m going to say it again – my summer would not be complete without reading a new Karen Witemeyer novel right in the middle!  In Honor’s Defense” is the latest Bethany House release from this prolific and bestselling author, and it is definitely one of my favorites.  It is also the third and final story of the “Hanger’s Horsemen” saga, and so it ties up all the lose ends we’ve been wondering about. Continue reading

An Unforgettable Final Visit To Misty River

Becky Wade always pens such satisfying, sigh-worthy novels that enmesh faith, romance, and a twisting-turning plot – the result is a story that stays with you long after you reach the end.  Turn to Me” is the third and final story in the “Misty River Romance” series, and as you can imagine, it was a bittersweet moment reading the final pages.  Luckily, this story in particular could definitely be read again one day soon! Continue reading

Incredibly Vivid and Atmospheric

Atmospheric. Riveting. Haunting. Unforgettable.  All these words and many others have already been used to describe Jaime Jo Wright’s newest release from Bethany House Publishers, but I will use them again because you simply cannot explain “The Souls of Lost Lake” without them!  Even though I finished this novel several days ago, just naming the title transports me back into the story that is so masterfully written, I truly felt as though I was there.  I can picture each scene and location vividly, and watch as the characters step out of the mist and into my vision.  It is almost creepy, actually, how real this story feels! Continue reading

A Compelling Journey to This Wonder of the World

A Deep Divide” is the first book I’ve read with Kimberley Woodhouse as the sole author.  I’ve previously read books she has co-written in collaboration with Tracie Peterson, but what a joy it was to see Kimberley’s voice shine all on its own!  Published by Bethany House, this story is the first in the “Secrets of the Canyon” series, and I am so looking forward to reading more stories set in this breathtaking and unique location.  From the first pages, this novel captured my attention and held it right until the end – with a sweet romance, nerve-wracking mystery, and lovable characters, I truly had a hard time putting the book down.   Continue reading

This New Series Has Potential

Lights Out” is the first book in Natalie Walters’ new “Snap Agency” series from Revell Publishers, and as you may have guessed from the title it falls into the Romantic Suspense genre.  The characters who form the Snap team are the driving force behind this novel’s success, because they are well-drawn individuals with secrets, goals, and hidden pasts – plus plenty of potential to carry this series forward for at least several more books.   Continue reading

Amara Alvarez Is Back!

After reading Tom Threadgill’s novel entitled “Collision of Lies” last year, I was hooked by this author’s talent for creating vivid characters and combining them with a fast-paced, intricate web of secrets and lies – all of which add up to a can’t-put-down mystery novel. Published by Revell earlier this year, “Network of Deceit” continues the story of Detective Amara Alvarez as she tackles her newest investigation. It appears to be a case of overdose and heatstroke by a teenager at a local waterpark – until a tiny detail comes to light that shows perhaps something more sinister is afoot… something like murder. Continue reading

Jaime Jo Wright’s Most Spellbinding Story Yet

“The Haunting at Bonaventure Circus” by Jaime Jo Wright was a book that I had to finish within a couple days! It is the kind of absorbing and evocative novel that works its way into your mind and will prevent you from thinking of much else until the mystery is solved and the characters receive closure (whatever that may look like… I will warn you, there are murders involved).

All of Jaime Jo Wright’s books have been stunning in their juxtapositions of the darkness and the light of this world; mistakes and mysteries of the past colliding with their results and consequences in the present. “The Haunting at Bonaventure Circus”, however, is my favorite because I could relate to these characters more than most of her other ones… Continue reading
