Incredibly Vivid and Atmospheric

Atmospheric. Riveting. Haunting. Unforgettable.  All these words and many others have already been used to describe Jaime Jo Wright’s newest release from Bethany House Publishers, but I will use them again because you simply cannot explain “The Souls of Lost Lake” without them!  Even though I finished this novel several days ago, just naming the title transports me back into the story that is so masterfully written, I truly felt as though I was there.  I can picture each scene and location vividly, and watch as the characters step out of the mist and into my vision.  It is almost creepy, actually, how real this story feels! The Gripping Conclusion to the Windy City Saga

We can always depend on Jocelyn Green to bring us a heart-wrenching, soul-inspiring story that keeps us on the edge of our seats, as she sweeps us back in time and brings historical events to life through fiction.  I have long been awaiting the conclusion to “The Windy City Saga”, and it was finally released by Bethany House Publishers this spring – yay!  Drawn by the Current” is as unforgettable as the previous stories in the series, and our heroine, Olive Pierce, is a woman I can certainly relate to in ways both big and small.   Continue reading

This New Series Has Potential

Lights Out” is the first book in Natalie Walters’ new “Snap Agency” series from Revell Publishers, and as you may have guessed from the title it falls into the Romantic Suspense genre.  The characters who form the Snap team are the driving force behind this novel’s success, because they are well-drawn individuals with secrets, goals, and hidden pasts – plus plenty of potential to carry this series forward for at least several more books.   Continue reading

A Complex, Twisting & Turning Story – Guest Review by Hayley

The Barrister And The Letter of Marque” is easily among the most intriguing novels I have read this year, or any year for that matter. Continue reading

Breathtaking. …

I wait with breathless anticipation for each of Joanna Davidson Politano’s new books.  When “A Midnight Dance” released from Revell, I was so excited to curl up during a peaceful afternoon and dive into Ms. Politano’s captivating new world of ballet – and then chaos struck our family.  I found myself instead reading this long-anticipated novel in the waiting room of a hospital – and perhaps this made the story even more poignant and thought-provoking.  At first it was a little difficult to ‘get into’, probably because of all the distractions in my life at the time.  But once I was ‘in’, oh my, it was hard to come back out! Jaime Jo Wright’s Best Story Yet (and that’s saying a LOT!)

On the Cliffs of Foxglove Manor” is my new favourite novel by Jaime Jo Wright!  Published by Bethany House in the summer of 2021, this book has just the right mixture of dark mystery, hopeful healing, and dual-time back-and-forth sequences to keep me turning pages long into the night – I simply couldn’t wait to see how it was all resolved!  I also love how it was deliciously creepy and haunting, but it all turned out reasonably explained in the end.   Continue reading

The Most Unique Novel I’ve Read In A Long While!

Oh, how I loved my introduction to an incredible author named Grace Hitchcock!!  “My Dear Miss Dupré” was such a unique, enjoyable, entertaining novel that I found myself thinking about it all through the day, waiting until I could finish up my duties and return to the world of New York high society, in the year of 1883.  As the first book in the new Bethany House series entitled “American Royalty”, this story definitely sets very high standards for the sequels to live up to.

Wow, The “Heirloom Secrets” Series Just Keeps Getting Better!

Wow, was this ever a humdinger of a sequel in the “Heirloom Secrets” series!  “Paint and Nectar” is the second book I’ve read by the incredibly talented Ashley Clark, (the first was “The Dress Shop on King Street”) and it completely blew me away.  This author manages to create poetry out of prose, and inspire readers with the themes of hope found in beauty, and the importance of preserving the past even as we move forward in the present.

Amara Alvarez Is Back!

After reading Tom Threadgill’s novel entitled “Collision of Lies” last year, I was hooked by this author’s talent for creating vivid characters and combining them with a fast-paced, intricate web of secrets and lies – all of which add up to a can’t-put-down mystery novel. Published by Revell earlier this year, “Network of Deceit” continues the story of Detective Amara Alvarez as she tackles her newest investigation. It appears to be a case of overdose and heatstroke by a teenager at a local waterpark – until a tiny detail comes to light that shows perhaps something more sinister is afoot… something like murder. From Pinkertons to Baby Raffles – This Story Has Everything!

Regina Jennings once again delivers a well-written, compelling, and historically intriguing novel from Bethany House Publishers – plus it is the first in a new series! “Courting Misfortune” opens up “The Joplin Chronicles” with a bang, as our Pinkerton-employed heroine faces danger of all sorts in a showdown against the shady side of a rough-and-tumble mining town.
