“Sunrise” is the first book I’ve read by Susan May Warren, but you can bet your boots it won’t be the last! As the first book in the “Sky King Ranch” trilogy from Revell, this novel swept me away to the Alaskan wilderness until I was so completely immersed that I couldn’t put it down if I tried. And then, I found myself at a shocking, no-way-to-end-a-novel cliffhanger, so now I am counting the days until the second book, “Sunburst”, is released!
“Sunrise” is the type of story you want to share with everybody, just because it is such a model of how Christian Fiction should be. Overflowing with adventure, danger, and wilderness-frights that had my heart racing as I flipped the pages, this story moves at a pace that keeps you hooked, yet still with room for thoughtful revelations that showcase the dynamic growth in the natures of the characters. The love story is also beautiful, and refreshing, and so incredibly God-centred by the end that I was truly inspired and plan to save a few of the characters’ quotes for future pondering. And the themes of forgiveness? Well, let’s just say they were the most powerful I’ve had the pleasure of reading in a novel for a very long time.
In the end, I cannot recommend “Sunrise” highly enough. It is truly a fabulous book, in a genre-combination I would call ‘wilderness suspense/Christian romance’. Unique, right? I just wish we weren’t months away from the release of the second story… but I suppose you can’t rush perfection!
