This Book NEEDED To Be Written

Paul Angone has written a book that I firmly believe everyone of my generation needs to read (and if we’re being honest, anyone living in this day and age would benefit from it!).  Listen To Your Day: The Life-Changing Practice of Paying Attention” is a truly incredible book for two reasons: its profoundness, and its simplicity.  With his signature wit and wisdom, Paul helps us to uncover what is holding us back from our purposes, what is hindering us from whole-body health, and what is keeping us from truly feeling happy with the trajectory of our days.

In so many ways, the answer is the same…. We are living distracted, and we need to start paying attention.

Yep, that’s it!  That’s the profoundly simply thesis of this book, but as we unpack what this truly means and looks like in our daily lives, we find that it is SO TRUE.  We live in an age where distractions are taking over our lives, hindering us from the power and purpose God has for us.

I value this book and the truth it represents so greatly; each chapter is like focusing on a new facet of a gem, as we dig deep into why we live distracted, and how we can overcome this – and how the practice of simply paying attention will radically change everything.  Just a couple of the ideas that stood out for me within these chapters were: the importance of doing physical things in the physical world (things that engage all our senses and use our hands), and the realization that coming to terms and wrestling with our past memories is needed before we can truly focus on being present in the moment today.

Part 1 of the book was excellent, but Part 2 was even better.  Called “Cultivating Mindset Models”, this section helps us to view our days through the lenses of different mindsets, such as that of a Farmer, a Writer, and a Monk!  Each one is thought provoking and mentally challenging.

Without question I highly recommend “Listen To Your Day” for so many reasons… the main ones being: it is needed, it is relevant, and it will truly change our culture if we allow it to.  Thank you Paul Angone for once again bringing such valuable and insightful wisdom to the table, as we learn to navigate this journey called Life in a way that honors the gifts God has given us.
