Do you hope to get married one day? If so, how will you and your future spouse prepare for not just the wedding day, but the marriage itself? “Ready or Knot: 12 Conversations Every Couple Needs to Have Before Marriage” written by Scott Kedersha and published by BakerBooks is a great launching point to help couples plan, think, and simply talk about the lifetime commitment they are choosing to step into with each other.
Organized into twelve chapters, this book breaks down fundamental yet oh-so-important topics such as money, faith, communication, children, and much more. Each chapter is written in an easy-to-understand style, and divided into sections. One feature I especially liked were the ‘example couples’ who honestly shared about their struggles relating to the specific chapters. At the end of each chapter is a section of questions for individual reflection, questions to be discussed as a couple, and a closing prayer relating to the topic.
All in all, I think this book would be a tremendous help for anyone thinking about ‘tying the knot’. I am not in a relationship at this time, but “Ready or Knot” still helped me to think about how I can prepare and grow in God as a single person who desires to be married one day in the future. So, regardless of where you are in a relationship phase, I think this book will prove helpful in various ways. Perhaps most importantly, it reminds us to go back to God’s Word on the topic of marriage, and seek ways to implement His guidelines into our daily lives and relationships.
