I can always count on Jody Hedlund to deliver a compelling story that is filled with a memorable romance, a unique peek into history, and a plot that sweeps readers away. Her newest installment in “The Bride Ships” series from Bethany House, “A Bride of Convenience”, does not disappoint!

“A Bride of Convenience” tells the story of Zoe Hart, who left England on a bride ship bound for British Columbia, and pastor Abe Merivale who has lived in the rugged land for several years. Reluctantly they are shoved together when an orphaned baby is left in their care, but are they willing to alter their entire futures when caring for the baby leaves them no choice but to marry someone they hardly know?

This third story in “The Bride Ships” saga was a memorable journey that kept me reading late into the night. It was intriguing, and although it was a marriage of convenience story (with all the opportunities for adult-rated content) it managed to stay relatively innocent. That’s not to say there weren’t a few scenes that I would have omitted if it was up to me, but overall I felt the morals and storyline overcame what could have been an uncomfortable situation to read about.

I have really enjoyed this series so far, and was excited to learn that it’s not over yet – the final book will release soon! If you enjoy Christian Historical Fiction, Jody Hedlund, and/or stories set in the wilderness of new lands, I highly recommend “A Bride of Convenience” – you probably won’t be able to put it down!
