Like “National Treasure” In A Novel! – Guest Review by Hayley

I have never read any other book like this before, but if I were to compare “The Master Craftsman” to a movie, it would definitely be “National Treasure.  It was such an intriguing read!  And the treasure in question was not some chest of gold, or ancient gem.  It was far more unique than that.  The main focus of the story was the Faberge Easter Eggs.

I had vaguely heard of these Russian works of art before reading  The Master Craftsman,” but reading this book gave me a strong knowledge of the Faberge company, and the incredible works of art that were created by those who worked there.  It was fascinating to say the least.  Plus, it’s great to have your phone or computer handy to look up the numerous creations that are mentioned this book.

As for the fictional story, it was hard to put down!  The treasure hunting aspect made for an exciting read, but the characters also had very personal and sometimes sad stories behind them that gave the book depth.

With the nature of the book being treasure hunting, there are sometimes moral dilemmas brought to our attention.  Characters often break the law and frequently lie in order to gain information.  There is also a lot of danger, and a couple of fatalities along the way.  It was, as I said, somewhat like “National Treasure,” which made it very interesting reading material, but perhaps not the best place to find examples of good moral conduct.

Still, if you enjoy dual-time novels and treasure-hunting stories, with lots of intriguing history and an interesting fictional story line as well, “The Master Craftsman” should definitely be on your list.

I am grateful to have received a copy of this book, free of charge, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
