Amy Lynn Green Pens Another Treasure

To put it simply: anything written by Amy Lynn Green is a MUST-read for me!  The Blackout Book Club” is her newest release from Bethany House Publishers, and as always it exceeded my expectations by far.  The influence of books and the power of friendship are two themes that shine so brightly from the pages of this story, and ensure that you will not come away untouched and uninspired… it simply isn’t possible!

As with all of Amy Lynn Green’s work, this story is so much more than just a novel – it feels like a living, breathing, arguing, loving, community of people who are complex and dynamic and REAL.  I don’t know how she does it, but this author allows me the gift of inserting myself into this story and truly becoming friends with these people, and feeling like I’m ‘one of them’.  This means we share inside jokes, we comfort each other in trials, and we rejoice when beauty shines through in the midst of darkness and despair.  I know this may sound strange and unlikely, but it’s true, I promise!  Read it for yourself and you will see!

I admit that for the first few chapters of the story I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of characters sharing their viewpoints, but I quickly began to ‘know’ everybody and soon was enjoying the back and forth as we moved between viewpoints from chapter to chapter.  I could go on and on about the merits of this book: the themes and redemptive morals and character growth.  But instead I will just say, even though it does include all those aspects, it is also simply a joy to savour each page, and it enriched my life by reading it.  And that, in my opinion, is a great gift for any author to offer her readers.  So thank you, Amy, for “The Blackout Book Club” – it is truly a treasure!
