Convincing AND Convicting!

I did not expect to be convicted by a book about the practice of Hygge, but surprisingly enough, I was!  (In the best, and most God-inspired way, of course.)  Holy Hygge: Creating A Place For People To Gather And The Gospel To Grow” was written by new-to-me author Jamie Erickson, and published by Moody in the last months of 2022.  This insightful, practical, and challenging book was an eye-opener for me in SO many ways, and I am very glad to have read it.  Here are just a few reasons why I recommend “Holy Hygge” to you as well:

Written in a warm and conversational tone, this book is extremely inviting and down-to-earth, yet also filled with Scriptural insights and truths.

– Hygge (pronounced HYOO-guh) is a buzzword right now in terms of curling up by a fireplace on a cold winter’s night, and selecting decor with warmth and comfort in mind.  But what if we combined this simple way of life with some simple truths from the Gospel, in terms of foundational concepts such as hospitality, relationships, rest, and comfort?  Holy Hygge” invites us to answer this exact question in exciting and doable ways.

I love how not only does Jamie teach us of our need to take action in sharing the gospel from our homes, but she demonstrates exactly HOW each one of us can do this, regardless of our current situations and circumstances.  I loved this, and was also convicted because I realized that I had no more excuses!

As Jamie herself explains, “A home is important, it’s true, but only because of the people gathered in it.  It’s not just where we live; it’s who we love.  Every person who enters your door has a divine appointment.  When all the earth totters, your friends and neighbours can look to the unshakable refuge of your home to find hope.  Here is where they can unleash their burdens and find real and lasting rest, where they can get a glimpse of the Garden God made.  Here is where they can walk in and meet Jesus.”

As you can see, “Holy Hygge” is truly an exceptional book.  It is powerful and convincing, as well as convicting.  The insights shared here are some that I’ve never before considered, and I am excited to begin putting them into practice.  God used this book to tug at my heart and point me in a direction that can help provide a haven for the people He has placed in my life – and for this I am exceptionally grateful.

I received this book courtesy of Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
