From the outside, this book has the appearance of textbook.  And in some ways, it is something of a textbook, as it is filled with information to enrich your knowledge and understanding of 75 examples from many different kinds of arts.

Hello my dear friends, how is everyone doing after a busy summer? Today (and always), I’m excited about books. My two girls and I LOVE books. We are very big readers, and are always having a conversation about a book (or books) we’re reading. Lately I’ve been reading/studying mostly non-fiction…animal communication, energy healing, medical intuition, meditation, and the list goes on. My girls have finally won their campaign to get me to read a fiction book. I’m loving it. It’s a historical fiction, one of my favorite genres. I forgot what it was like to get lost in a book! Oh it’s so much fun! I leave the worries of my day and enter a wonderful story. As it’s getting cooler outside, and the daylight hours are shorter, we also tend to watch a few more movies too. Awesome Resource for Moviegoers!

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I first picked up my copy of of “God in the Movies: A Guide for Exploring Four Decades of Film”, edited by Catherine M. Barsotti and Robert K. Johnston. Published by BrazosPress in 2017, the purpose of the book is to “encourage movie lovers and small groups to reflect critically and theologically on some of the best movies of recent years.”

“God in the Movies” is a thick volume with in-depth discussions for 40 movies, all released between 1981 and 2014. This extensive list includes classics such as: “Chariots of Fire”, “Groundhog Day”, “Up”, “Life of Pi”, and of course many more. Continue reading →

“Witness the Manhunt that Changed the Course of Human History” – “Risen”, the Novelization

This is the tagline for a new movie entitled Risen, releasing in February of 2016 and just in time for the Easter season. It sounds intriguing, don’t you think? Only a few weeks earlier, the novelization of this major motion picture released from Bethany House Publishers as a precursor to the movie. The novel was written by Angela Hunt and based on the story by Paul Aiello, who also created the screenplay along with Kevin Reynolds. As the tagline suggests, this IS a resurrection story that is unique, unexpected, and compelling in many ways. Unfortunately though, it contains several less-than-desirable qualities as well.
