With novels written by Lynn Austin and published by Bethany House, I’ve learned that you can generally count on three unique features:
– an unusual storyline that often spans several decades and is told from multiple points of view;
– fascinating characters who experience unique challenges in unheard-of-before circumstances;
– and themes that will inspire, challenge, and cause you to think more deeply about your own journey through life.
“Where We Belong” is the newest book by Ms. Austin, and is one of the most unique books I’ve read this year, yet also one of the most enjoyable! Told through the eyes of four different characters, and spanning 30 years from 1860-1890, this story allows us to “join two incomparable sisters on adventures that span the decades and cross the globe”. Sound interesting? It most certainly was!
The one downfall of this story, which may not be a downfall for some readers, was that I found one of the central characters to be pushy, overbearing, and annoying. I kept expecting her to realize her abrasiveness was something she should change, but she didn’t. Apart from this, however, I found “Where We Belong” to be a wonderful story of courage, adventure, and following God’s path for your life. If you are looking for a longer novel that you can immerse yourself in as you journey with the characters on the adventure of a lifetime, don’t miss Lynn Austin’s newest release.
