A One-Of-A-Kind Home Decorating Book!

I just found a new home decorating book that is SO. MUCH. FUN!! “The DIY Home Planner: Practical Tips & Inspiring Ideas to Decorate It Yourself” was written by KariAnne Wood (with artwork by Michal Sparks) and published by Harvest House in the Spring of 2018. Overflowing with fabulous tips and doable instructions to help anyone realize their decorating dreams, this book oozes delightful whimsy, a contagious can-do attitude, and loads of practical advice – who could ask for more?!

Some of (what I consider) the best features in this book include:

  • Interactive decision trees help you decide between several different options, such as curtain type, fabric selections, and wall pattern/color.
  • Pictures! Illustrations and photos adorn almost every page of this engaging book, and allow for the author’s wisdom and instructions to come to life with vivid clarity.
  • “Workbook” pages such as graph paper with cut-outable furniture pieces will help you get the feel for furniture placement planning; and designated spaces to insert paint, wallpaper, and fabric samples for each room allow you to make decisions more easily while visualizing which colors work together (and which ones don’t!).
  • Decorating terms for the DIY-challenged! Painting Terms (do you know what a dry brush is?), Flooring Terms (could you define “chevron” off-hand?), and Window Treatment Terms (I had NO idea what “finials” were until reading this!) are just a few of my favorites…

“The DIY Home Planner” is definitely a gem of a book, especially for anyone looking for a guide to “decorate your home like a rock star!” With writing and illustrations that are joyful and engaging while still being practical and down-to-earth, I have the feeling this book is one-of-a-kind. If you are thinking of starting some new decorating projects in your own home (big or small), or are looking for the perfect gift for a new homeowner or perhaps a new bride, I believe this book will be a treasure trove that will be used, saved, and returned to time and time again.
