I have come to adore many of Lysa TerKeurst’s books and devotionals, written on many topics and for women of all ages. With her signature blend of gentle warmth and stories we can relate to, she guides readers to step into the best that God has for them. One of the books that she wrote earlier in her career has now been re-released from Harvest House Publishers, and is entitled “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God: Live More Fully, Love More Deeply, Experience God’s Best For You”. This sweet yet powerful little book is not only packed with Lysa’s wisdom and experience at living a life of “yes” to God, it also includes a Bible study at the end of each chapter to enrich her words with God’s timeless truths.
Although there are many quotable passages in this book, one of my favorites occurred on page 94. Lysa shares the Bible verse of Isaiah 48:18, which describes God’s peace as being like a river. Then, Lysa goes on to give a beautiful word-picture that, for me, really helped this verse come to life: “God chose such a unique word to describe His peace – a river! A river is not calm and void of activity. It is active and cleansing and confident of the direction it is headed in. It doesn’t get caught up with the rocks in its path. It flows over and around them, all the while smoothing their jagged edges and allowing them to add to its beauty rather than take away from it. A river is a wonderful thing to behold.” This section goes on to explain that saying yes to God is more about being and less about doing… It’s about choosing to follow Him, and trusting Him to give us the strength and ability – and the peace – to follow through.
I highly recommend “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God”. While it is an easy read, it is filled with powerful truths that point us towards God and how to nourish a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Him. If you are looking for a new inspirational book to breathe fresh life and encourage you on your spiritual journey, I think Lysa TerKeurst’s newly re-released book would be a fabulous place to start.
