You should read this book if… You enjoy Christian Romantic Suspense, have read the previous books in the “Blue Justice” series, and/or are ready for a thrill ride of a story that will have you on the edge of your seat, flipping the pages as quickly as possible to discover what happens next.
Tone and Mood: Fast-paced! High energy! Thrilling! Scary! Suspenseful! This is probably not a book you should read if you are wanting to unwind for a few minutes before bed…
Characters and Point of View: The third-person POV switches back and forth between Detective Brady St. John (each of the “Blue Justice” novels are about one of the St. John siblings) and financial crimes investigator Emily Chastain.
Storyline: This story hits the ground running, as a 911 call is placed by a woman who is trapped in her car by a masked assailant. She is the best friend of our protagonist, Emily, who is soon kidnapped herself for unknown reasons… As Brady finds himself in the right place at the right time to save Emily, it becomes apparent that the hidden intentions behind both attacks are much farther-reaching than anyone expected.
Themes and Morals: Letting go of the past, forgiveness of yourself and others, seeing yourself as God sees you, and reconciliation are all important themes of this novel.
Inappropriate Content: One of the main characters has a past that is filled with regret for poor choices, but is tactfully described. Also, as expected in the genre, several violent scenes may be disturbing to some readers, but in my opinion are not revealed with too much detail.
Conclusion: I almost always enjoy Lynette Eason’s crime-fighting novels, and the newest installment of the “Blue Justice” series is no exception. “Code of Valor” is an action-packed mystery that is not only a thrilling adventure, but also an inspiration as the characters uncover God’s purposes for them. If you enjoy Christian Romantic Suspense, I highly recommend this new release from Ms. Eason.
