Easy-reading summertime novels (usually set at the seashore) are the perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon of summer vacation. Often these stories have a ‘Hallmark Movie’ feel to them, with a sweet, clean romance plus a gentle and enjoyable plot that wraps up with a happy ending for all. Denise Hunter’s new release from Thomas Nelson fits all my ‘requirements’ for the perfect summery story, and is completely charming and well-written to boot!
“Summer By the Tides” is an emotional tale of three sisters and their journey to forgiveness as family secrets are revealed, and unexpected romance blossoms. When their beloved grandmother disappears from her cottage in Sea Haven, Maddy, Nora, and Emma – who haven’t been close since a summer 20 years ago ripped their family apart – converge on the summer house to find her. Each sister brings a boatload of secrets hidden inside, but none of them are ready to reveal anything to each other. . . at least not yet.
I have never before read a book by Denise Hunter, but I highly enjoyed this one and hope to read more of her work. Faith and themes of forgiveness provide a strong foundation for an emotional and warmly written story that captures your imagination and tugs at your heartstrings. If you enjoy Hallmark movies, and/or the “Hope Harbor” series of books by Irene Hannon, I can just about guarantee you will also love visiting Sea Haven, North Carolina, where a little summer cottage is the backdrop for a beautiful story of love and forgiveness.
I received an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book from HarperCollins Canada, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
