I’ve never before read a book by Amanda Cox, but I was so impressed with “The Secret Keepers of Old Depot Grocery” that I will definitely be searching out more titles by this talented author! Published by Revell in the summer of 2021, this book captivated me from start to finish with the story of how a family-run grocery store is the thread that ties generations of women – and their secrets – together into a heart wrenching tale of love and loss.
“The Secret Keepers” is not a feel-good comedy or adventurous sort of tale. But it IS a story that draws you into the inner workings of each character, and allows you to understand their longings and hurts, their struggles and triumphs, and perhaps most prominently the intricacies of their relationships. In a way, although the truths learned by these characters are unique to their story, they are also universal themes that resonated with my heart and perhaps will with yours, too… But I won’t say what these truths are, for that may be giving away too much of this carefully, slowly, meaningfully developed tale.
If you enjoy dual-time stories filled with complex characters, intriguing relationships, and long-held secrets, I highly recommend “The Secret Keepers of Old Depot Grocery”. It will be a story that will draw you in and captivate your heart from the very beginning. And, the revelations of the characters just may speak to your soul as well.
