Book number 2 in the “Prince Edward Island Shores” series is one of the novels I was most anticipating this summer, because a visit to the Island (even a fictitious visit) is always a welcome retreat! “The Last Way Home” is Liz Johnson’s sequel to “Beyond the Tides”, and tells the story of two characters we were just briefly introduced to – but who now share a whole plethora of history, secrets, and surprises with us. I’ve never before read a book by Amanda Cox, but I was so impressed with “The Secret Keepers of Old Depot Grocery” that I will definitely be searching out more titles by this talented author! Published by Revell in the summer of 2021, this book captivated me from start to finish with the story of how a family-run grocery store is the thread that ties generations of women – and their secrets – together into a heart wrenching tale of love and loss. For the last couple days, I have spent every spare minute at the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893, where I witnessed an unforgettable story unfold. How did I travel back in time? Jocelyn Green’s new release from Bethany House Publishers, “Shadows of the White City”, was my time machine of choice, and as is always the case with her books it completely immersed me from start to finish. This story is the second of “The Windy City Saga”, and takes place almost twenty years after “Veiled in Smoke” occurred. All my favorite characters return in these pages, but this time it is Sylvie Townsend who is featured in the spotlight, as uncomfortable as it may be for her. . .
You know Christmas is just around the corner when Melody Carlson releases her new, annual Christmas novella from Revell Publishers! “A Christmas by the Sea” is the newest release from the pen of Ms. Carlson and is a sweet little story of new beginnings, seaside reminiscences, the possibility of romance – and of course it all takes place at Christmastime. Award-winning author Kristi Ann Hunter has released the first book in her brand-new “Haven Manor” series from Bethany House, entitled “A Defense of Honor”. Just like her previous novels, this new story is compelling, intriguing, and filled with endearing characters who walk right off the pages and into your imagination. I truly cannot wait for the next installment of “Haven Manor”, but first I must give you a word of caution about a major plot point that conservative readers (as I consider myself to be) should certainly be aware of. Have you ever read a book by an author who possesses the incredible ability to tell a story that crawls into your imagination and comes to life with the vivid clarity of a movie? Does that author also have the ability to plumb the depths of the heart and soul, bringing to light some of the questions we all have inside? For me, Charles Martin is just such an author. Although I’ve only read two of his books so far, both affected me deeply, and I don’t think I will ever forget the poignant tales that he shares or the quotes that are so filled with truth. Mr. Martin’s newest work is “Send Down the Rain”, and was published by Thomas Nelson in the spring of 2018. Continue reading
If you are a fan of Christian Historical Fiction, the name Amanda Cabot is likely one you’ve come across before. As the bestselling author of “A Stolen Heart” – book number one in the “Cimarron Creek Trilogy” – Ms. Cabot shares stories that will inspire your heart and intrigue your imagination. “A Borrowed Dream”, her newest book and the sequel to “A Stolen Heart”, was published by Revell in the spring of 2018.
“A Borrowed Dream” is a novel that truly contains a bit of everything… Romance, heartache, mystery, deception, joy, hate and love. Continue reading
Don’t you love it when you get the chance to become reacquainted with old friends? Of course, in the case of fictitious friends you don’t actually visit with them face to face, but watching their new stories and relationships unfold is almost as much fun. If you enjoyed meeting Martha Cade in The Midwife’s Tale by Delia Parr, you will be delighted to discover her continuing story. The Midwife’s Choice is book two in the At Home in Trinity series, and was published by Bethany House at the end of 2015. In this story, we discover new dilemmas and secret pasts to many recurring characters, and meet several newcomers, as well. Continue reading
