When I pick up a book by Susie Larson, I know that I will be challenged, humbled, and provided with so much wisdom and godly strength that I will not be able to remain unchanged after reading it. “Strong in Battle: Why the Humble Will Prevail” is her newest release from Bethany House Publishers, and is perhaps her most powerful work yet. I honestly gained so much from this book that it’s hard to describe… but I shall do my best, because it deserves accolades in abundance. Continue reading

A Tale Of Secrets That Will Speak To Your Heart
I’ve never before read a book by Amanda Cox, but I was so impressed with “The Secret Keepers of Old Depot Grocery” that I will definitely be searching out more titles by this talented author! Published by Revell in the summer of 2021, this book captivated me from start to finish with the story of how a family-run grocery store is the thread that ties generations of women – and their secrets – together into a heart wrenching tale of love and loss. My Top Must-Read Story Of The Summer
Sometimes we need a gentle, slow-paced story that reminds us to take a deep breath and just…. be. “The Nature of Small Birds” by Susie Finkbeiner was just such a book for me, and it was also one of my favourite novels of the entire year. This story is told in a chapter pattern where the entire book goes through the sequence of perspectives for three different family members, at varying time periods of their lives. The neat part? This story is primarily about a girl named Mindy, but she is not even one of the narrators telling the story! Continue reading
An Unforgettable Epistolary
Amy Lynn Green is a brilliantly talented writer who, I am thrilled to say, has released her first novel from Bethany House Publishers – the very place where she has worked as a publicist for several years! Amy’s nonfiction articles have been featured in numerous publications that I’ve had the pleasure of reading over the years, and each one showcases her sparkling wit and thought-provoking wisdom. Now, this gift of writing has (at long last!) been transferred over into a beautiful novel that I almost missed, but I’m so glad I didn’t! Continue reading
Unique Facets of Civil War History
I always learn some interesting history lessons when I pick up a Judith Miller book from Bethany House Publishers! In her new release of “A Single Spark”, I discovered unique facts about the arsenals responsible for producing munitions during the Civil War, and how the vast majority of employees in these facilities were women. Although necessary for the Union Army to win the war, these were dangerous positions for many reasons including close contact with gunpowder, as well as the possibility for treasonous activity within the production sites. . . As was the case in “A Single Spark”! Continue reading
A Haunting New Dual-Time Novel from Jaime Jo Wright
I have read all of Jaime Jo Wright’s novels so far, and each time I am amazed at what amazing creativity and skill she has. “Echoes Among the Stones” is her fourth novel from Bethany House Publishers, and while it was not my personal favorite there is absolutely no question that it was a haunting, dual-time, heartbreaking-but-healing masterpiece. Continue reading
Elizabeth Camden Has Outdone Herself On This One!
Bethany House Publishers have released some fabulous works of fiction in the last few months, but I have to say that none quite compare to the novel I just finished reading… Who wrote this new masterpiece, you ask? It probably won’t come as a surprise to discover that it was the acclaimed Elizabeth Camden, who has begun a brand-new series entitled “Hope and Glory”. The first story in this series is “The Spice King”, and what an unforgettable story it is! Continue reading
Not My Favorite From Angela Hunt
Bestselling author Angela Hunt is renowned for her fascinating and insightful novels set in biblical eras. Her stories bring this period in history to life, and allow readers to feel as thought they are actually visiting the times and places and people of the Bible. Her newest release from Bethany House is the last installment of “The Silent Years” series, (set during the years between the Old Testament and the New Testament) and is entitled “King’s Shadow: A Novel of King Herod’s Court”. While still fascinating in its own way, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations of an Angela Hunt novel… Continue reading
A Story I Will Remember for Years to Come
“All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.” This famous quote by Julian of Norwich is the first line of words we read as we pick up Susie Finkbeiner’s new release from Revell, aptly titled “All Manner of Things”. As we continue reading a bit farther, we are swept away to the year 1967, where we meet a family and begin a journey that, within the first few pages, we know we will never forget. Continue reading
A Beautiful Edition of a Timeless Classic
Harvest House Publishers is celebrating the 25th anniversary of one of the most beloved Christian romance novels of all time by releasing an exquisite special edition of the original book. . . Lori Wick’s “Sophie’s Heart” was first released in 1995, and has since sold over 350,000 copies worldwide. Amazingly, I had never before read it and was delighted to discover this captivating story for the first time. With a rich, burgundy and foil-adorned hardcover and a ribbon bookmark, this lovely edition would make a precious gift for ladies of all ages; whether they’ve never before met Sophie, or they’ve read her story time and time again.
