I’ve read and enjoyed many of Karen Witemeyer’s novels. So with the new release of “Heart on the Line”, there was no question as to whether or not it would be in my TBR pile. As the second “Ladies of Harper Station” novel, “Heart on the Line” follows the story of Grace Mallory, a character we are already somewhat acquainted with from “No Other Will Do”.
I found the plot of this book to be absolutely stellar. The many facets strung throughout the book hold the reader’s attention quite effortlessly, and are tied together in the final chapters into a satisfying ending that allows you to breathe a sigh of relief after all the peril the characters had to suffer in order to get there! Still, while the plot contains many problems to be solved, dangers to be faced, and surprises to be discovered, it also contains moments of laugh-out-loud humor that will keep the reader chuckling long after the back cover is closed. While I did find that some romantic scenes and thoughts were taken a bit too far and it was a little uncomfortable at times, I don’t consider these instances to mar the book too terribly, although they were a disappointment that would keep me from recommending the book to too young a reader.
I also enjoyed the strong faith aspects of “Heart on the Line”. They are the cornerstones of the story, particularly in one secondary character’s journey of healing from past trauma. Although it was at times difficult to read about this character’s history, her strength of faith and willingness to follow God through anything was nothing short of inspiring.
In conclusion, Karen Witemeyer has once again created a one-of-a-kind story just begging to be picked up and jumped into. Readers who enjoy adventure, humor, romance, and a plot that will always have you reading “just one more page” will certainly not want to miss “Heart on the Line”.
