It’s the time of year to launch into a holiday themed TBR pile. Thus, when offered a chance for a Bethany House Christmas Novella Collection from four award-winning authors, you can guess my response!
“The Christmas Heirloom” presents to us a valuable amethyst brooch that has been passed down for generations from mother to daughter for almost 200 years. Continue reading
When I saw a collection of historical romance novellas by three of my favorite authors, I knew it needed to be added to my reading list! “All My Tomorrows” was published by Bethany House in the summer of 2018, and includes:
- Karen Witemeyer’s “Worth the Wait” (a “Ladies of Harper Station” novella)
- Jody Hedlund’s “An Awakened Heart” (a prequel to her “Orphan Train” series)
- Elizabeth Camden’s “Toward the Sunrise” (joining her novel “Until the Dawn”)
I was long overdue for my dose of a Karen Witemeyer story, and her newest novel was even better than I’d hoped! “More Than Meets the Eye” was published by Bethany House as the first of the “Patchwork Family” novels, and just like all of Karen’s books is the perfect combination of sweet and heart-pounding, witty and thought-provoking. I’ve read and enjoyed many of Karen Witemeyer’s novels. So with the new release of “Heart on the Line”, there was no question as to whether or not it would be in my TBR pile. As the second “Ladies of Harper Station” novel, “Heart on the Line” follows the story of Grace Mallory, a character we are already somewhat acquainted with from “No Other Will Do”. Continue reading
She’s done it again, folks! Master storyteller Karen Witemeyer has crafted a tale that will capture your heart and imagination, and draw you in faster than quicksand… Published by Bethany House in 2016, Ms. Witemeyer’s newest book is entitled “No Other Will Do”, and is a “Ladies of Harper’s Station” novel. The question is, does it pass the expectations set by so many of her other books? Let’s play a little game I call “Is This the Book for You?” to find out! Continue reading
She’s done it again! Karen Witemeyer has once again crafted a delightful historical romance set in her signature blend of western adventure and sweet relationships between vivid characters. If you have enjoyed any of her half-dozen other novels, her newest release – A Worthy Pursuit – is not to be missed.
So much could be said about this book… With an intricate and memorable plot, primary and secondary characters who ALL seem to walk off the page, and a rugged setting, each element combines to make this title impossible to resist. Continue reading
Are you looking for an adventure that is noteworthy and unique, filled with peculiar plot lines and out-of-the-ordinary characters? Or perhaps you most enjoy humorous interactions between hero and heroine, mixed in with story suspense and perhaps a little mystery. In either case, I know just the book for you…
Although it’s highly combustible, a little on the ‘unlikely’ side of believable, and may cause you to be late if you start reading before an appointment, Full Steam Ahead is a story certain to capture your imagination and hold it tight – from beginning to end. With this novel as her 6th full-length book, Karen Witemeyer adds to her repertoire of comedic, western adventures filled with unconventional characters who seem to emerge from the pages into real life.
Nicole Renard, the only child of a wealthy shipping magnate, and Darius Thornton, self-proclaimed scientist of steamship boilers, find themselves thrust into each other’s paths after a trail of events involving a jeweled pirate dagger and a jealous shipping competitor. As they work together to realize a dream of inventing a safer boiler system for river travel, Nicole and Darius face increasing dangers from outside threats – and impossible decisions for an uncertain future as they begin to care for each other.
Full Steam Ahead is an enjoyable, lighthearted novel filled with comedic escapades and thoughtful insight into the importance of letting go of your past, while trusting God with the future. On the downside of the story, the same issue occurs as with many of Ms. Witemeyer’s works – occasional scenes between Nicole and Darius border on inappropriate for conservative readers, and several descriptions are mildly uncomfortable to think about. Overall, however, Full Steam Ahead is a story with good intentions, and a fun adventure to enjoy during an afternoon of relaxation. From pirate daggers to boiler explosions, you won’t be able to stop once you get moving… full steam ahead!
