I may have mentioned this before already, but I absolutely ADORE Moody Bible Studies for Women! Whenever a new title in this amazing series is released, I am anxious to give it a try—and I’ve never been disappointed. The newest study I’ve been enjoying is entitled “Included in Christ: Living a New Story from Ephesians” by Heather Holleman. This 8-week Bible study takes students of the Word on a journey verse-by-verse through the book of Ephesians, and unpacks what it really means to answer the questions: “Who are we? Where do we belong? How do we live included in Christ?”.

A main focal point of this unique study is the practice of overcoming what Heather calls our “Shadow Narratives” with something far better: our “Savior Stories”. This concept is woven into each and every lesson, to varying depths and in many different ways. At the same time, through the series of lessons readers delve into several unique but equally important words: Included, Chosen, Seated, Strengthened, Renewed, Filled (with the Holy Spirit), and Proclaiming (our Savior Stories).

Each lesson (or week) is divided into five sections, one section to be completed each day. So what does a typical day’s study look like? Well, it usually starts with reading a passage from Ephesians, often with a pen in hand to underline or highlight key words (usually verbs). Next comes a reading from the text, which contains personal stories and insights from the author, featured Savior Stories from real women, and often cross-referenced verses from Scripture. Finally, this is followed by a series of questions, exercises, and writing prompts designed to help you think and apply the truths to your life, and to continue the Savior Story you are writing, both on paper and with your life.

In the end, “Included in Christ” is one of my favorite additions to the Moody Bible Studies for Women series. It is not a light and fluffy daily reading, but rather a text that doesn’t hesitate to dive deep into the book of Ephesians and ask (and answer) some tough questions. Although this is the first book I’ve read by Heather Holleman, it definitely won’t be my last! If you are looking for an in-depth Bible study, don’t miss this new addition to the Moody Bible Studies for Women.
