A Heartfelt and Reflective Adventure

“She always wanted a different heart. But she never expected the adventure that would come with it.” After reading this tagline, who could resist learning more about the story it describes? “The Heart Between Us” was written by new-to-me author Lindsay Harrel and published by Thomas Nelson just in time for Spring, 2018. As readers step into the pages of this sweet novel, they will be swept along on an adventure of growth, challenge, discovery, and love.

A heart transplant. A bucket list. An epic adventure. A new beginning. These features, combined with Ms. Harrel’s warm and endearing writing style, make “The Heart Between Us” a unique tale of healing and hope. While it is not a fast-moving story, and much of it is focused on the internal growth of the two protagonists, this is balanced nicely with their adventure of a worldwide journey to complete the unfulfilled bucket list of one courageous young girl. As each item on the list is completed, the sisters are compelled to search their own lives, and hearts, to discover what really matters in life… and what does not.

“The Heart Between Us” is an endearing story that will touch your heart in many ways. It does contain small amounts of content interspersed throughout the story that, for me, was a bit problematic; abuse, personal relationship details, and a few carefree phrases thrown about were the main issues. In the case of the abuse, however, I felt that it was handled tactfully and discreetly, and I can see how it was a necessary part of the story. Overall, this novel by Lindsay Harrel was a genuine pleasure to read. Not only did it share a truly heartfelt and emotional story, it also made me stop and reflect on a few areas of my own life with a fresh perspective – and isn’t that what all good novels are supposed to do?

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLook Bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
