“The Girls’ Guide to Conquering Life” is a wonderful new volume that will guide young women of all ages to handle new situations with confidence. Written by Erica and Jonathan Catherman, this book includes topics ranging from how to change a tire, how to throw darts, how to wear a scarf, and how to introduce yourself. Clearly, a lot of time and thought was put into choosing this amazing range of topics.
One of my favourite aspects of this book is the engaging writing style. It’s not just another how-to book. It’s more like a conversation of the authors sharing wisdom with a younger generation using wit and understanding. Although this book seems to be aimed for the early to mid-teen age group, I believe many of the topics included in this book will also be valuable to girls who are much older than that.
The book begins with a section on “Guys and Dating.” The thoughts in this section are quite modern and may not line up with everyone’s ideas, but may also prove helpful in some ways. This part is followed by sections on “Social Skills and Manners,” “Work and Ethics,” “Wealth and Money Management,” “Health and Beauty,” and so many more. One of my favourites was the “Cars and Driving” section which included some very practical, yet seemingly scary skills such as parallel parking, or how to shift a manual transmission.
If you haven’t yet picked up a copy of “The Girls’ Guide to Conquering Life”, I absolutely recommend you do whether it’s for yourself, or as a gift for someone else. I believe just about everyone will learn at least a few things from it, and likely much more, and have some fun in the process.
