“Defiant Joy” – it really does feel like we must act in defiance to the world if we are to experience joy in this life. The mainstream society is governed by worry, fear, guilt, shame, and so many other things that stand in the way of this joy that is supposed to be the birthright of the sons and daughters within the Kingdom.
Some of my favourite books are written by John and/or Stasi Eldredge. For this reason, I was quick to pick up a copy of “Defiant Joy: Taking Hold of Hope, Beauty, and Life in a Hurting World”, and I am very glad I did. Continue reading
A new release from Revell Publishers written by Kay Wills Wyma holds a very timely message for practically everyone living in the fast-paced world of our modern day and age. “Not the Boss of Us: Putting Overwhelmed In It’s Place In A Do-All, Be-All World” is the response to the questions so many of us feel deep down, sometimes even subconsciously: “Too much to manage and not enough time or energy to do it? What if instead of being overwhelmed with life you could be overwhelmed by Truth with all its grace, hope, peace, and love?” Continue reading
I have only read a couple of Sharon Jaynes’ books, but with each one I always reach the end with a sense of greater knowledge and deeper understanding of God’s Word. I believe this is the result of Sharon truly listening to God’s voice as she writes. Her newest book, “Enough: Silencing the Lies That Steal Your Confidence” is actually a revised edition of an earlier work, but is a first-time read for me. Published by Harvest House, this book helps answer the question I think all women have asked, “What can you do when you feel you’re just not good enough?” Continue reading
“The Girls’ Guide to Conquering Life” is a wonderful new volume that will guide young women of all ages to handle new situations with confidence. Written by Erica and Jonathan Catherman, this book includes topics ranging from how to change a tire, how to throw darts, how to wear a scarf, and how to introduce yourself. Clearly, a lot of time and thought was put into choosing this amazing range of topics. Continue reading
The moment we’ve all been waiting for (or at least all the fans of Kristi Ann Hunter’s Regency-era “Hawthorne House” series have been waiting for) finally arrived in the autumn of 2017! From Bethany House comes “An Inconvenient Beauty”, the story of the last, unmarried Hawthorne sibling: Griffith, Duke of Riverton. Because Griffith was a character we all came to adore in the previous books, I’m certain I wasn’t the only reader waiting with baited breath to finally encounter the lady who would win his heart. Wouldn’t it be amazing if our favorite Christian non-fiction books had a coloring book to accompany them? Well, guess what?! One of the best non-fiction books I read in the year of 2015 now DOES have a coloring book to go along with it, and an absolutely adorable one at that… Fans of Emily P. Freeman’s “Simply Tuesday: Small-Moment Living in a Fast-Moving World” will undoubtedly be delighted with the new addition to the “Tuesday” collection: “It’s Simply Tuesday: An Adult Coloring Book”. Published by Revell in the spring of 2017, this is hands-down my favorite coloring book. Ever. Continue reading
When a highly respected Christian author (who has written dozens of books that have inspired and transformed the lives of women of all ages for many years) pens a new volume that is being described as her “legacy work”, I think it is worthwhile to take a look at it…wouldn’t you agree? Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, a wise author who clearly strives to align her writing with God’s will and His Word, has released a new book from Moody Publishers entitled “Adorned: Living Out the Beauty of the Gospel Together”. Based on the book of Titus in the Bible, and specifically the Titus 2 mandate for women, Nancy’s words shine a spotlight on the beauty, insight, and wisdom of living life in step with “God’s good and beautiful plan”.
