Discernment. That’s not a word that is used very often these days – or at least it’s not one that is put into practice as often as it could and should be. A new book from Moody Publishers, written by Hannah Anderson, helps readers to change this trend, and instead begin asking questions like “How can we, imperfect as we are, develop an instinct for recognizing and embracing the good?” and “How does discernment equip us to navigate a broken, complicated world with confidence and joy?” In “All That’s Good: Recovering the Lost Art of Discernment”, these questions are just the starting point on an exciting journey of new insights and challenging discussions, helping us to truly live out Philippians 4:8 which instructs us to seek truth, honor, justice, purity, loveliness, and things that are praiseworthy. I have only read a couple of Sharon Jaynes’ books, but with each one I always reach the end with a sense of greater knowledge and deeper understanding of God’s Word. I believe this is the result of Sharon truly listening to God’s voice as she writes. Her newest book, “Enough: Silencing the Lies That Steal Your Confidence” is actually a revised edition of an earlier work, but is a first-time read for me. Published by Harvest House, this book helps answer the question I think all women have asked, “What can you do when you feel you’re just not good enough?” Continue reading
“The Girls’ Guide to Conquering Life” is a wonderful new volume that will guide young women of all ages to handle new situations with confidence. Written by Erica and Jonathan Catherman, this book includes topics ranging from how to change a tire, how to throw darts, how to wear a scarf, and how to introduce yourself. Clearly, a lot of time and thought was put into choosing this amazing range of topics. Continue reading
“What label are you wearing?” While it may seem simple or even a bit strange, this question can bring up so many potentially life-changing ideas if we understand the context behind it. “Tailor Made: Discover the Secret to Who God Created You to Be” was written by Alex Seeley and published by Thomas Nelson. It is a wonderful guide to learning how to effectively ask this question, and so many others, in ways that help us really begin to understand who we were created to be, and how to be set free to live out that truth… (Hint: it is NOT who the Enemy says we are, which is often so ingrained into us that we consider his lies to be truth). I’ve enjoyed several of bestselling author Melissa Michaels’ books in the past, and also love following her regular posts on social media. She truly has an incredible gift to help us “inspire our homes”. When a new book title from this talented lady was released by Harvest House Publishers entitled “Simple Gatherings: 50 Ways to Inspire Connection”, I was excited to read it and hoped I could come away better able to “create memorable gatherings with simplicity and style”… I wasn’t disappointed! “Let Go of Your Insecurities. Take Hold of God’s Promises.” With these words, author Sharon Jaynes invites us on a journey towards greater faith, confidence, and courage. “Take Hold of the Faith You Long For: Let Go, Move Forward, Live Bold” was published by BakerBooks in 2016, and will definitely prove to be a treasure trove of truths for many readers.
Because the titles of each chapter are very revealing of the contents, take a look at the truths you will unwrap through the pages of this impacting book: Continue reading
