Kristi Ann Hunter is my favorite author of Christian novels set in the Regency era, and I have enjoyed reading each one of her books. I was delighted to learn that her new 2020 release is the beginning of a brand new series (her third series from Bethany House, I believe?) called “Hearts on the Heath”.

“Vying for the Viscount” is the first story of this new series, and from chapter one I was swept away to the time period made so famous by Jane Austen’s stories. In a way, Kristi’s new novel is reminiscent of an Austen story, with all the wit and wisdom underlying the ridiculous-sounding customs of courtship and all the rituals relating to it. A big difference in this narrative, however, is the inclusion of both the hero’s and heroine’s passion for horses – both riding them and raising them. Their unique ways of interacting, as well as the hero’s recent arrival in England, make this book stand out from other Regency stories in the best way possible.

Without question this is one of my favorite historical novels that I’ve read this autumn. It was witty and charming, yet also thought-provoking and compelling. I am waiting with bated breath for the next story to be released, as I can guess who it will be about and I am positive it is bound to be another favorite! If you enjoy Christian Historical Fiction, Kristi Ann Hunter’s novels, or Regency Romance, I highly recommend this book. . . And if you are like me and love all three of these elements, well, then “Vying for the Viscount” absolutely must be next on your reading list!
