Kristi Ann Hunter is my favorite author of Christian novels set in the Regency era, and I have enjoyed reading each one of her books. I was delighted to learn that her new 2020 release is the beginning of a brand new series (her third series from Bethany House, I believe?) called “Hearts on the Heath”.
“Vying for the Viscount” is the first story of this new series, and from chapter one I was swept away to the time period made so famous by Jane Austen’s stories. In a way, Kristi’s new novel is reminiscent of an Austen story, with all the wit and wisdom underlying the ridiculous-sounding customs of courtship and all the rituals relating to it. I adore Kristi Ann Hunter’s stories, and her newest novel may be my favorite yet! “A Pursuit of Home” is the final installment in the “Haven Manor” series, but it is also very closely related to the “Hawthorne House” books (Ms Hunter’s first series). This means in a single novel she not only concludes an already-unforgettable series, but she ties both of her series together in a way that feels perfect and natural. Now that is talent! You know you are reading a book by a talented author when the words on the page form a story that is equal parts hilarious and tragic, messy and endearing. Kristi Ann Hunter’s second novel in the “Haven Manor” series from Bethany House Publishers is a close continuation of the first installment, and is entitled “A Return of Devotion”. This charming book draws you into the dilemmas of the characters from the first page, and had me scarcely able to turn the pages fast enough to discover how the heroine would get herself out of the terrible fix she was in! It’s the time of year to launch into a holiday themed TBR pile. Thus, when offered a chance for a Bethany House Christmas Novella Collection from four award-winning authors, you can guess my response!
“The Christmas Heirloom” presents to us a valuable amethyst brooch that has been passed down for generations from mother to daughter for almost 200 years. Continue reading
The moment we’ve all been waiting for (or at least all the fans of Kristi Ann Hunter’s Regency-era “Hawthorne House” series have been waiting for) finally arrived in the autumn of 2017! From Bethany House comes “An Inconvenient Beauty”, the story of the last, unmarried Hawthorne sibling: Griffith, Duke of Riverton. Because Griffith was a character we all came to adore in the previous books, I’m certain I wasn’t the only reader waiting with baited breath to finally encounter the lady who would win his heart. When the first two books in a series are enjoyable, humorous, inspirational, and contain clean Christian content, isn’t it a logical conclusion to assume the third book will continue in a similar direction? I thought so… But I was proven wrong – quite wrong. “An Uncommon Courtship” is the third book in the “Hawthorne House” series written by Kristi Ann Hunter and published by Bethany House. Because each of these books are closely connected with each other, and the characters are recurring, it is easy to imagine the excitement of a new release. Equally easy to imagine is the disappointment when expectations remain unmet. Continue reading
