As you probably know, Christian Historical Fiction is my favorite genre hands-down.  More specifically, stories with a traditional western setting during the 1800s are my go-to choices.  So Amanda Cabot’s writing is always appealing to me, and when I saw that her new series entitled “Secrets of Sweetwater Crossing” is set in a little Texas town where love grows even as mysteries threaten to divide, I knew I wanted to give it a try!

“After the Shadows” is a story that is expectedly well-written, with the usual features we know and love in historical fiction such as personable characters and a rural lifestyle.  But, it also features heart-wrenching tragedy combined with a mystery that kept me guessing.  The family dynamics are unique as well, and I can’t help but wonder who the next story will be about… will the three sisters each have a tale to tell, or will it be other residents of Sweetwater Crossing who have the spotlight?

No matter what happens later in the series, “After the Shadows” is a splendid start that I certainly recommend for fans of the author, genre, or setting.  If you enjoy all three as I do?  Well, this book is a must-read for sure!
