Gripping, Horrifying, And Very Powerful

The Warsaw Sisters” by Amanda Barratt is a beautiful story that was, for me, also very unexpected.  It is in the Christian Historical Fiction genre so I thought I knew what I was getting into, but that was not the case.  It is an extremely powerful and well-written tale, that much is certain.  The depth and emotion and historical truth of it is quite astounding, in fact.  But it is also VERY graphic, and the depictions about the horrors of war will likely stay with me for a very long time.  This was the author’s intention, of course, to impress upon our imaginations the reality of what happened in Poland during the Second World War.  I’m not sorry I read it, I just wasn’t prepared for it.  And that’s my own fault. A Time-Slip Masterpiece – Guest Review by Hayley

I love time-slip novels, and I also tend to choose books set in the World War Two time period.  That made “Hidden Among the Stars” an easy choice for me, as it incorporates two interwoven stories, a contemporary one, and a historical one set during WWII. Continue reading

Hilarious, Intriguing, and Sweet! (Guest Review by Hayley)

White’s newest release, “A Name Unknown”.  Before beginning this novel, I felt rather indifferent to it.  I was neither excited about it, nor did I not want to read it.  I simply thought I would give it a try, and had neither high nor low expectations for it.  What I didn’t guess was that it would quickly rise to number one on my list of favourite books!   Continue reading

Approach with Caution (Guest Review by Hayley)

Kate Breslin has proven herself to be a masterful author.  After tremendously enjoying her last novel “Not by Sight”, I was eager to obtain a copy of her newest release, “High as the Heavens.”  Would her most recent novel prove to be as stellar as her previous?  Well… In some ways yes, in other ways,  I’m sorry to say definitely not.

“High as the Heavens” contains an absolutely phenomenal plot.  It is a dramatic, ever-changing saga of espionage, danger and secrets, and every reader will be left gaping at the page in shock at least once along the way.  In fact, to be completely fair, “High as the Heavens” holds one of the very best plots that I have ever read.  Additionally, not only is it a grand adventure, but it is also strengthened by many faith-building elements.  So what’s the problem?
