A Beautiful Conclusion to a Fantastic Series – guest review by Hayley

img_0142Oh dear… the time has come. The last book of the “Waves of Freedom” series has finally been released, and what a finale it is. But – that’s just it. It’s the end to a series that truly does proud the Christian fiction genre. While I’ve “patiently” waited for this book ever since reading the previous two in the series, it is heartbreaking to realize that the stories of Jim and Mary, Arch and Lillian, and Dan and Quintessa have come to a finish. But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and these books were definitely a very good thing.

After reading “Through Waters Deep”, and “Anchor in the Storm”, I had very high hopes for “When Tides Turn”. Still, I never thought I could love it even more than the first two. But that is exactly what happened. After a bit of a slow start, img_0141it soon became my favorite book of the trilogy – and one of the best books I have ever read, which, coming from a member of this book-crazy family, is pretty high praise.

The sweet and gentle love story of Dan and Tess melted my heart, while the battle scenes and mystery held my attention and kept me guessing. I was also thrilled to “visit” with the characters from the previous books, and to witness each of their happily-ever-afters. Among the best aspects of “When Tides Turn” is that it almost always stays well within the parameters of “clean” Christian fiction. Although it is not quite perfect in this characteristic (what book is?), it is a small enough detail to be of very little concern.

Sadly, with the “Waves of Freedom” coming to an end, this will be my last review of the topic, and I don’t believe that a mere review can do justice to this masterpiece of a series, so I will not even try. All I will say is two more things. First: I truly hope that you will set sail within the pages of these amazing books. You won’t be disappointed. And second: Thank you – Thank you to Sarah Sundin for writing one of the best series I have ever read, and likely will ever read.

  1. Thank you for such a lovely review, Hayley! I’m glad you enjoyed Dan & Tess’s story. And don’t worry…there’s another series starting next year – Sunrise at Normandy, following three estranged brothers who fight on D-day from the sea, the air, and the land.

    • So sorry for the very delayed response! I LOVE the WWII time period for historical fiction, and I’m so excited for this new series to be released. ❤ I also must say that the cover for the first book is absolutely gorgeous! 🙂
