When I pick up a Jody Hedlund novel, I expect a story that completely captivates my imagination with vivid characters, while immersing me in a unique time and place in history. She rarely disappoints. “The Runaway Bride” is the second book in “The Bride Ships” series published by Bethany House, and is at fault for causing me to read late into the night (and simultaneously wake up tired the next morning) because I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next! “The Sea Before Us” is the first of a brand new series that Sarah Sundin’s readers have been eagerly anticipating. After reading the first installment of the “Sunrise at Normandy” trilogy, I can see that this series is staying true to the author’s trademark of military adventures, and presents a brand new story of Texas-born Lieutenant Wyatt Paxton of the United States Navy, and British-born Second Officer Dorothy Fairfax of the Royal Navy. After immensely enjoying this author’s previous series, “Waves of Freedom,” I was thrilled to join these new characters in their story which, unlike “Waves of Freedom,” takes place in Europe as opposed to the United States. You aren’t supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but sometimes it just can’t be helped! This was the case for me with Becky Wade’s newest novel from Bethany House Publishers, entitled “True to You”. Although I’d never before read a book by Ms. Wade, I just HAD to give this one a try, especially after reading the unique synopsis. . . To explain it simply: genealogist Nora Bradford and former Navy SEAL John Lawson work together to discover the secrets of a hidden ancestry, and soon begin to realize they make a perfect pair—until a wound from the past resurfaces and threatens to submerge any hope at a future together. As the first installation of the “Bradford Sisters Romance” series, this book did a fantastic job at not only creating John and Nora’s story, but also setting the stage for the other two Bradford sisters and their romances, too! Oh dear… the time has come. The last book of the “Waves of Freedom” series has finally been released, and what a finale it is. But – that’s just it. It’s the end to a series that truly does proud the Christian fiction genre. While I’ve “patiently” waited for this book ever since reading the previous two in the series, it is heartbreaking to realize that the stories of Jim and Mary, Arch and Lillian, and Dan and Quintessa have come to a finish. But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and these books were definitely a very good thing. Continue reading
I read “Through Waters Deep” very soon after it was released from Revell last year. Seeing how it became one of my MOST favourite books I have EVER read in my ENTIRE life, I guess you could say that I was just a little bit excited for “Anchor in the Storm” to be released. But could this new sequel even come close to reaching the nearly impossible high standards set by the first book in the Waves of Freedom series? Continue reading
Of all the book character companions I’ve had over the years, Miss Mary Stirling and Ensign Jim Avery are two of the best. Bringing them to vivid life through the pages of her newest release, Through Waters Deep, author Sarah Sundin gives us a gift through her writing as beautiful as Mary’s sweet soprano voice. With a mystery to keep you guessing, characters that will become friends, and a love story that will melt even the hardest of hearts, Through Waters Deep is a story that should not be missed by any Christian fiction reader, or any reader at all!
Everything about this novel simply breathes life. One of my favourite aspects Continue reading
