We can always depend on Jocelyn Green to bring us a heart-wrenching, soul-inspiring story that keeps us on the edge of our seats, as she sweeps us back in time and brings historical events to life through fiction. I have long been awaiting the conclusion to “The Windy City Saga”, and it was finally released by Bethany House Publishers this spring – yay! “Drawn by the Current” is as unforgettable as the previous stories in the series, and our heroine, Olive Pierce, is a woman I can certainly relate to in ways both big and small. A Unique New Story of Shipwrecks and Secrets
A new Julie Klassen novel is a great way to start the new year, wouldn’t you agree? “A Castaway in Cornwall” was published in December of 2020 by Bethany House, but it was the first novel I read in 2021 – and an intriguing story it was, too! Continue reading
Powerful Start To A New Series From Jody Hedlund
It is always exciting when a favorite author begins a brand new series, don’t you think? This time it’s Jody Hedlund who has released the first installment of a new story from Bethany House Publishers, entitled “A Reluctant Bride” – book number one in “The Bride Ships” series. The fascinating premise of dozens of poor London women leaving behind all they know and setting sail for British Columbia, where potential husbands await them, is based on true events of the 1860s. This unique scenario, combined with Jody’s masterful skill at weaving a compelling story, allows us to quickly be swept away in a story of hope, healing, and love – all of which come to pass in the most unexpected of ways. Another Unforgettable Caribbean Story – Guest Review by Tracy
Thank you to my daughter Carly for the honour of reviewing this book on her blog. And thank you to the author, Lisa T. Bergren, for “Verity”, an amazing and compelling book two in “The Sugar Baron’s Daughters” series. Continue reading
A Satisfying Conclusion to a Fascinating Series
I always feel like sighing after finishing the last installment of a series, as it brings both a sense of completion and a feeling of regret that the journey has concluded. Suzanne Woods Fisher’s “Nantucket Legacy” trilogy, published by Revell, has now come to a close with “The Light Before Day”. The fascinating Quaker history combined with an intriguing plot, memorable characters, and a second parallel tale told through a decades-old journal, all combine to make this series one that I am glad to have read. Continue reading
Fascinating History Combines With A Delightful Story
I am always excited to read a new standalone historical novel by Judith Miller, primarily because she takes fascinating but obscure snippets of history and weaves a captivating story around them. From a girl who paints carousel horses to a father and daughter who travel the country preaching the gospel from a chapel train car, Judith’s stories always promise to teach readers little-known history while simultaneously entertaining them with a wonderful story. It’s a win-win all around! Judith Miller’s newest story from Bethany House Publishers is “The Lady of Tarpon Springs”, which is set in 1905 Florida and centers around the sponge trade… yep, you read that correctly! This is a story of how trained divers (from Greece) arrived in Florida to harvest sponges from deep beneath the surface of the ocean. Although the characters are all fictitious, the details of the sponge business are well-researched and true to history. Continue reading
A Second Visit to Nantucket
“Minding the Light” is Suzanne Woods Fisher’s newest release in the “Nantucket Legacy” series, a unique story filled with fascinating history, a secondary plot from an earlier generation (in the form of a journal), and the unique setting of Nantucket Island in the 19th century. Published by Revell in the summer of 2018, this story of the Quakers who made a living from the dangerous whale trade is a must-read for all of Ms. Fisher’s Amish fiction fans. Continue reading
Breathtaking and Unforgettable
Have you ever read a novel that was so remarkably unique, masterfully written, and utterly compelling that it almost left you speechless with amazement? Lisa T. Bergren’s new story, which is book number one in “The Sugar Baron’s Daughters” series, is a historical novel that is nothing short of a masterpiece, and will sweep you away to a time and place that seems almost like another world (but one that is vivid and alive and fascinating all at the same time). “Keturah” takes place in 1772. It begins in England, but through the course of the book we journey with the characters as they travel to a new life (though not the one they would have chosen) and the legacy their father left them on the Caribbean isle of Nevis. Continue reading
An Inspiring Nantucket Adventure
Although I haven’t read very many of Suzanne Woods Fisher’s numerous novels, the ones I have read are always enjoyable and unique. Her newest Historical Romance release from Revell Publishing, “Phoebe’s Light”, was no exception, and is the first of an exciting new series called the “Nantucket Legacy”. As the back cover promises, readers will be swept away on an adventure set against the “treacherous shores of Quaker life on the storied Nantucket Island”. Continue reading
A Beautiful Conclusion to a Fantastic Series – guest review by Hayley
Oh dear… the time has come. The last book of the “Waves of Freedom” series has finally been released, and what a finale it is. But – that’s just it. It’s the end to a series that truly does proud the Christian fiction genre. While I’ve “patiently” waited for this book ever since reading the previous two in the series, it is heartbreaking to realize that the stories of Jim and Mary, Arch and Lillian, and Dan and Quintessa have come to a finish. But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and these books were definitely a very good thing. Continue reading
