I love reading debut novels for so many reasons… One of them is because I am never quite sure what to expect, and so often I’m blown away by the newly revealed talent of a special young author. This was the case with a summer 2022 release from Revell. Written by Sara Brunsvold, “The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip: All the wild ways to die could never compare to how she really lived” is a beautiful, unexpected, poignant tale that will make you cry and smile, laugh and ponder. It is one of those books that can be read again soon, and still you will learn so much from the wisdom held in each page.
“The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip” is a story that is not afraid. It is unafraid of exploring the beauty of death when held alongside the hope of eternity in Heaven. It is unafraid to dive into the fears and hopes and struggles that come with facing the event of dying, and it is equally unafraid of portraying the sadness for those left behind. BUT, it is also a celebration of life and living to the fullest potential God has for each of us – of courage and grace, even in the face of disappointment and heartache. As we discover, Mrs. Kip has so much to teach Aidyn Kelley (and each of us) about all these aspects of life. And best of all, it doesn’t take long to realize that the only thing predictable about this extraordinary lady is that she never fails to surprise us!
“Mrs. Kip” is a beautiful story that is so raw and real and vulnerable and celebratory, it doesn’t feel like a work of fiction at all. Thank you Sara Brunsvold, for penning a tale that none of us will soon forget. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next!
