Continuing The Patchwork Family Story

I have been waiting for Karen Witemeyer’s “More Than Words Can Say” ever since her last book, “More Than Meets the Eye”, was released in the summer of 2018. This new story from Bethany House Publishers continues the story of the “Patchwork Family” series. We finally discover what happens next for Zach Hamilton, who we were introduced to in the previous story, and also meet Abigail Kemp, a young baker with a big problem. Continue reading

A Story I Will Remember for Years to Come

“All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.” This famous quote by Julian of Norwich is the first line of words we read as we pick up Susie Finkbeiner’s new release from Revell, aptly titled “All Manner of Things”. As we continue reading a bit farther, we are swept away to the year 1967, where we meet a family and begin a journey that, within the first few pages, we know we will never forget. Continue reading

Fascinating and Challenging Biblical Fiction from Jill Eileen Smith

I always enjoy Jill Eileen Smith’s Biblical fiction. Each story transports us to ancient times, allowing us to see and experience history through the eyes of characters from the Bible. Her newest release from Revell is unique in that portions of the story were previously published as novella-style e-books, but have now for the first time been reworked and included together in a single, interwoven novel. “The Heart of a King: The Loves of Solomon” tells the stories of King Solomon and four of his wives: Naamah, Abishag, Siti, and Nicaula. As we are swept away by the powerful story, we inevitably are challenged to answer the question of “whether this king’s storied wisdom ultimately benefited him and those he loved . . . or betrayed them.” Continue reading

An Incredible, Interactive New Title in the “Discovering the Bible Series”

Do you enjoy interactive Bible studies – books that are packed with ideas and activities to creatively engage with God’s word in exciting new ways? I adore these types of studies, and was delighted when a new book in the “Discovering the Bible Series” was released. “Discovering Joy in Philippians: A Creative Bible Study Experience” was brought to life by Pam Farrel, Jean E. Jones, and Karla Dornacher, and follows in the footsteps of their first book in the series, “Discovering Hope in the Psalms”. Continue reading

A Satisfying Conclusion to a Fascinating Series

I always feel like sighing after finishing the last installment of a series, as it brings both a sense of completion and a feeling of regret that the journey has concluded. Suzanne Woods Fisher’s “Nantucket Legacy” trilogy, published by Revell, has now come to a close with “The Light Before Day”. The fascinating Quaker history combined with an intriguing plot, memorable characters, and a second parallel tale told through a decades-old journal, all combine to make this series one that I am glad to have read. “Praying God’s Promises: The Life-Changing Power of Praying the Scriptures” by Linda Evans Shepherd is the type of resource that you can return to again and again, obtaining different insight and wisdom from it during varying seasons of life. Powerful, Helpful, and Engaging Book About Emotional Boundaries

I just finished reading a book that, upon completion, I promptly added to my personal list of most influential non-fiction books. “Boundaries for Your Soul: How to Turn Your Overwhelming Thoughts and Feelings into Your Greatest Allies” was published by Thomas Nelson and written by Alison Cook, PhD, and Kimberly Miller, MTh, LMFT. This book takes the complicated question of “Do your emotions control you or do you control your emotions?” and breaks it down into understandable, do-able, and ultimately life-changing practices that will truly transform you from the inside out. The Long-Awaited Conclusion to an Unforgettable Series

For me, and I’m sure for many readers, it is always a bittersweet moment when you reach the final pages of a series that has worked its way deep into your heart and imagination. As one of my favorite authors, many of Michael Phillips’ series are very dear to me; but perhaps none quite so much as his latest work entitled “Secrets of the Shetlands”. Published by Bethany House in the summer of 2017, “The Legacy” is the final installment of the Shetland saga, and masterfully closes a narrative that weaves the past and present into a beautiful and unforgettable tale. A Great Resource

While prayer is something we are all familiar with, I believe if we are honest with ourselves it is also something we often struggle with. A new book from Moody Publishers addresses this topic directly with a book by Bill Thrasher, entitled “A Journey to Victorious Praying: Finding Discipline and Delight in Your Prayer Life”. This book is for you “If you’ve ever felt too busy, confused, or unmotivated to pray”.

This little book makes an excellent month-long daily devotional because the content is divided into short chapters that are packed with advice, stories, insights, questions for thought and journaling, key Scripture verses, and more. Continue reading

Changing the World, One Woman at a Time!

Clark_GirlDefinedGirl Defined imageAre you a Christian woman who desires to serve God to the best of your ability, and to align your life with God’s perfect design? If so, I want to share with you a new book that holds the ability to permanently transform your life from the inside out… “Girl Defined: God’s Radical Design for Beauty, Femininity, and Identity” was written by sisters Kristen Clark and Bethany Baird, and published by BakerBooks in mid-2016. Because they explain it so well, I’ll let Kristen and Bethany give you a little background info: “The reason we wrote this book is to give you a radically better vision for what true womanhood is all about. The only hope we have as women is to stop defining ourselves according to other people’s standards and start defining it according to God’s Word. In order to become all God created you to be, you have to gain a vision for what true God-defined femininity is all about.” Continue reading
