Certain to Change Your View of Change

Girl Meets Change image

“If God’s love for us is unchanging, then his desire to use change to benefit and bless us is unchanging too. If God’s love for us is unchanging, then his desire to help us accept change and thrive through it is unchanging too. Yes, it’s hard to see that in the early blur and the murky middle. But I can look once again to God’s history with me and see how my testimony brims with proof of his unchanging loving-kindness.”

These words give a peek into the heart and soul of a beautiful, strength-and-hope-filled little book recently released from Revell Publishers, and written by Kristen Strong. “Girl Meets Change: Truths to Carry You through Life’s Transitions” shares insight into a topic rarely discussed, but experienced by everyone at one time or another. Change often brings stress, disappointment, and fear, but Kristen says it doesn’t have to be this way. What if we started looking at change as an opportunity to grow closer to God, and as a blessing from a loving Father who will work through it alongside us? Continue reading

Emily’s Best Book Yet

Freeman_SimplyTuesdayEmily P. Freeman has proven me wrong, and I am so glad she did! What am I talking about, you ask?   Well, after reading Emily’s previous book entitled A Million Little Ways, I truly did noSimply Tuesday imaget think it could be beaten – either in unique and inspirational content or poetic writing style. With the release of Simply Tuesday: Small-Moment Living in a Fast-Moving World, however, this theory is proven false. Truly it is my favorite inspirational non-fiction book of the year, and within the top 10 of my all time greatest picks.

Surprisingly, so much inspiration is packed within the pages of this book that the descriptions on the back cover, in publicity blurbs, and even chapter excerpts simply don’t do it justice. To give you an idea of the range of thoughts it contains – all written in Emily’s signature poetic prose – check out these chapter sub-headings: Continue reading

Look Outside the Box – a guest review by Tracy

Boundless imageI invite you to stretch your mind, to think outside the box in what following Jesus may look like in other parts of the world. Boundless by Bryan Bishop has explored, in-depth, other cultures and how they are following Jesus as their Savior while still living within their culture. This book expanded my knowledge that following Jesus has many, many different looks to it, not just the typical Western Christian view to which I’m so accustomed. Imagine celebrating Jesus while dancing in a full native headdress. Or listening to stories being told about Jesus in a small gathering in India. Continue reading

All Groan Up by Paul Angone – A Tough Book to Review

Al Groan Up imageAre you a twenty-something who has life all planned out? Do you hold a detailed road map outlining each of your future goals, a summary of what your life is supposed to mean written in stone, and the keys to the career of your dreams? Well, if you do, you will definitely not relate to Paul Angone’s newest book, ‘All Groan Up’. But I’m pretty sure you are also in the minority of twenty-somethings – or else misrepresenting the truth!

“Told with raw honesty, humor, and hope, ‘All Groan Up’ is for a generation asking, “What now?!”” With the insight that can only come from a guy who has been there, done that, and holds the t-shirt to prove it, Paul shares his journey and struggles transitioning from graduation into responsible adulthood. It is messy and hilarious, but most of all truthful. Primarily, it reveals that you are not alone in the struggle that is your twenties. Continue reading
