I don’t know how she does it, but Stephenia H. McGee’s new release from Revell is so vivid and real in my imagination that it feels more like a movie than a novel! “The Secrets of Emberwild” is a beautiful, sweeping, and unforgettable story that I adored from start to finish, and if you enjoy Christian Historical Fiction it should definitely be high on your to-read list as well. Freedom
Not The Series’ Finest
The “Colorado Cowboys” saga continues in book #3, “To Tame a Cowboy”, written by talented author Jody Hedlund and published by Bethany House. I know there will be at least one more book to come in the series later this fall, and I’m expecting two more – so that each McQuaid sibling gets to tell their story. Filled with plenty of adventure and romance set on the Western frontier, “To Tame a Cowboy” is an interesting addition to the series. But, it is not my favourite for a few reasons… Continue reading
Unusual Story For Roseanna White – Guest Review by Hayley
After multiple book series all set in Europe, “Dreams of Savannah” is quite a surprising release for Roseanna White, as it is set in the Southern States during the American Civil War. Continue reading
Challenging and Convicting New Title from Christine Hoover
I have found that you can always count on Christine Hoover to provide a hard-hitting message with her books – and her newest release from BakerBooks is no exception. “With All Your Heart: Living Joyfully Through Allegiance to King Jesus” is a powerful book that compels readers to answer this question: If our hearts are made for allegiance to a king and kingdom (which they are) who and what are we consciously and unconsciously pledging our loyalty to? Who and what are we truly living for, with the thoughts and words and actions of our daily lives? It’s a profound question, and one that challenged and convicted me simultaneously. Continue reading
The Final Chapter in an Unforgettable Journey – Guest Review by Hayley
For those who have followed Lisa T. Bergren’s latest series, “The Sugar Baron’s Daughters”, the last installment of “Selah” has been long-awaited. And what a finale it is. Continue reading
This Story Will Leave You Breathless…
As you may know I do not often read science fiction or fantasy novels, but something about the new release by a bestselling father-daughter author duo really caught my attention. “The Girl Behind the Red Rope” is the first collaboration by Ted Dekker and Rachelle Dekker and was published by Revell in 2019. Let’s just say – I am SO glad I read this novel! Continue reading
The “Survival Guide” For Young Adults!
Have you read Jonathan “JP” Pokluda’s book “Welcome to Adulting: Navigating Faith, Friendships, Finances, and the Future”? If so, you will be excited to discover his new book from Revell entitled “Welcome to Adulting Survival Guide: 42 Days to Navigate Life”! It is an excellent addition to his full-length nonfiction book that really helps young adults remember and apply the practices that are so imperative as we enter our grown-up lives. Continue reading
A New Must-Read from Kristen & Bethany of GirlDefined Ministries
“Sex, Purity, and the Longings of a Girl’s Heart: Discovering the Beauty and Freedom of God-Defined Sexuality”. This is a title that I would never have picked up, unless it was written by someone I deeply respect, trust, and admire; and for me, Kristen Clark and Bethany Beal absolutely fit into this category. These two amazing ladies are the founders of Girl Defined Ministries, and also wrote “Girl Defined” and “Love Defined” (all three have been published by BakerBooks). I adore their work, so… I knew their new book would also be a must-read. Continue reading
Another Masterpiece by Kristy Cambron
Kristy Cambron’s second installment in her “Lost Castle” series is even better than the first! Captivating and compelling, “Castle on the Rise” tells three unique but connected stories of three generations of women (from 1797, 1916, and present day), all woven into one unforgettable masterpiece of a novel. Released from Thomas Nelson early in 2019, this beautiful story is a must-read for anyone who has enjoyed the previous story in the series, loves the intricate weaving of dual- or triple-time novels, and/or is a fan of the incredibly talented Kristy Cambron. A Sweeping, Memorable Civil War Saga
All stories affect us to some degree, but in some cases when the topic strikes such a chord in our hearts, we hold the story up beside our own lives as a filter to perhaps look at life a little differently than we did before. The issues surrounding slavery, and the courage of the men and women who helped the slaves escape their prison, are a prime example of a very poignant slice of history for many people. I have only read a handful of stories set during the Civil War, but Tara Johnson’s newest novel is definitely one of the most memorable. “Engraved on the Heart” was published by Tyndale House in the fall of 2018, and is a moving saga of courage, faith, and love.
