Whenever you pick up a book by “Switch on Your Brain” author Dr. Caroline Leaf, be prepared to have your life changed in some way! This is definitely the case with her newest release from Baker Books, “The Perfect You: A Blueprint for Identity”. This book is for you if, as Dr. Leaf questions in the prologue, you’ve ever asked yourself:
“Who am I? Does anyone out there understand me . . . do I have purpose and meaning, a unique part in a divine plan? Does anyone understand who I am, or who I am meant to be? Do I even understand me? Can I accept the way God has allowed me to be? Do I really accept the blueprint for identity that God has given me?”
“Fear Fighting: Awakening the Courage to Overcome Your Fears”. The title alone sounds like a book worth reading, wouldn’t you agree? Written by Kelly Balarie and published by BakerBooks, this Christian Living non-fiction book is a volume that promises to help readers transform into fear fighters, and “women breaking free of trepidation to find bold dedication to God’s peace-, purpose-, and joy-filled callings”.
Without question, there are gems hidden inside the pages of “Fear Fighting” that will speak to your heart and inspire you… The only problem? For me, those gems were very few and far between. Unfortunately, the majority of the book was excessively wordy and rather boring. Continue reading
Some books are just plain difficult to review… “The Rewired Brain: Free Yourself of Negative Behaviors and Release Your Best Self” by Dr. Ski Chilton, with Dr. Margaret Rukstalis and A.J. Gregory, is just such a book. Published by BakerBooks in the fall of 2016, this title immediately caught my attention because I have learned a great deal from similar works (most by Dr. Caroline Leaf, who I highly recommend) about improving our thought lives. Since “The Rewired Brain” was published by a Christian company, I assumed that the content would be based upon Scriptures and would perhaps give new insight into “renewing our mind” from the viewpoints of both science and the Bible. While this is somewhat the case, another element that I hadn’t anticipated also came into play… Continue reading
The title of a non-fiction book does not always convey the full purpose and content of the book itself. In the case of a new book written by Scotty Smith and published by Baker Books, however, the title sums up the content perfectly… What is this book? It is called, “Every Season Prayers: Gospel-Centered Prayers for the Whole of Life”. Continue reading
Have you ever tried reading a book that had a strong message and worthwhile intentions, but you just couldn’t get into it? That was the case for me with Dr. Larry Crabb’s new release, entitled “A Different Kind of Happiness: Discovering the Joy That Comes from Sacrificial Love”. Without question there are many jewels of wisdom found within the pages of this book, but at times the language feels so deep and lengthy that those gems are difficult to uncover. Perhaps a slow and thoughtful reading is what is needed, with plenty of time between chapters to ponder and consider the author’s message… Continue reading
Are you a Christian woman who desires to serve God to the best of your ability, and to align your life with God’s perfect design? If so, I want to share with you a new book that holds the ability to permanently transform your life from the inside out… “Girl Defined: God’s Radical Design for Beauty, Femininity, and Identity” was written by sisters Kristen Clark and Bethany Baird, and published by BakerBooks in mid-2016. Because they explain it so well, I’ll let Kristen and Bethany give you a little background info: “The reason we wrote this book is to give you a radically better vision for what true womanhood is all about. The only hope we have as women is to stop defining ourselves according to other people’s standards and start defining it according to God’s Word. In order to become all God created you to be, you have to gain a vision for what true God-defined femininity is all about.” Continue reading
“Let Go of Your Insecurities. Take Hold of God’s Promises.” With these words, author Sharon Jaynes invites us on a journey towards greater faith, confidence, and courage. “Take Hold of the Faith You Long For: Let Go, Move Forward, Live Bold” was published by BakerBooks in 2016, and will definitely prove to be a treasure trove of truths for many readers.
Because the titles of each chapter are very revealing of the contents, take a look at the truths you will unwrap through the pages of this impacting book: Continue reading

As teenagers and young adults, we often dream of doing something great with our lives; of making a difference and changing the world. When we actually decide to chase after the dreams that are truly God-given, beautiful and incredible things are bound to happen. In a new non-fiction release from BakerBooks, young Bethany Winz (with Susanna Foth Aughtmon) shares her story of what happened when she decided to chase after a dream, and how it changed her life – but not always in the ways she expected. “One Dress. One Year: One Girl’s Stand against Human Trafficking” is the impactful memoir of Bethany’s experiences as a sixteen-year-old girl who decided to make a stand for the men, women, and children trapped in slavery around the world. Her plan? To wear the same black dress, every day, for one entire year, and to raise $100,000 in the process. Continue reading
