Over the years, Kristen Clark and Bethany Beal of GirlDefined Ministries have taught me so much about living as a godly woman and daughter of our Lord. With each new book they release, I am challenged to grow in new ways. According to Kristen and Bethany this new book is their most personal one yet, and I definitely agree – yet it is not just a ‘memoir-type’ book that gives their stories and leaves the readers wondering how it affects them. In fact, the opposite is true. Continue reading
I have been following Paul Angone’s writing journey for many years now. I have always found him to be a very wise, relatable author who somehow manages to take concepts about young adulthood that are so real, but often misunderstand, and transform them into lessons about life and living that we all need to learn sooner than later.
So, that is why I knew I needed to read his newest book from BakerBooks, entitled “25 Lies Twenty-Somethings Need To Stop Believing: How To Get Unstuck And Own Your Defining Decade”.
I have read each and every one of Kristen Clark and Bethany Beal’s books, and I was so excited to see them release a devotional for the first time this spring! “Shine Bright: 60 Days to Becoming a Girl Defined by God” is a beautiful little hardcover from BakerBooks, and more importantly, the inside is packed with 60 daily doses of hope, reflection, and guidance for getting into God’s word.Continue reading
“Don’t Overthink It: Make Easier Decisions, Stop Second-Guessing, and Bring More Joy to Your Life”. Doesn’t this title grab your attention immediately? It did mine, especially when I saw the author was Anne Bogel who also wrote one of my favorite non-fiction books, “Reading People”, a few years ago. Continue reading

Sometimes a book’s title accurately and succinctly describes exactly what you can expect to find within the pages. That is the case with a new book by Nelson Searcy and Jennifer Dykes Henson – “The New You: A Guide to Better Physical, Mental, Emotional, and Spiritual Wellness”. Published by BakerBooks early in the new year of 2019, this book is a practical yet exciting, user-friendly resource to help us form new habits and, consequently, improve our health. Continue reading
Adulting. . . You’ve probably heard the word, and perhaps read a humorous joke or cartoon about the concept of becoming an adult in today’s world. But have you ever questioned how to actually ‘Adult’ (a verb) in a responsible and God-honoring way that will lay a solid foundation for the rest of your life? Or, have you ever asked the question “I’m an adult…NOW WHAT?” If either of these questions applies to you, a new release from BakerBooks written by pastor Jonathan “JP” Pokluda with Kevin McConaghy is definitely one that should be added to your TBR list. Every once in a while, a book comes along that impacts your life in ways both beautiful and altogether transformative. A book like this reaches deep into your heart and stirs to life parts of your soul that have long been hidden, all while challenging and inspiring your thoughts and ideas. “Dreaming with God: A Bold Call to Step Out and Follow God’s Lead” by Sarah Beth Marr is just such a book for me, and I know without a doubt that I am not the only one who will be tremendously blessed by its precious messages. Published by Baker Books and released in February of 2018, “Dreaming with God” is truly the type of book that will remain with you long after you reach the end. Continue reading
Whenever you pick up a book by “Switch on Your Brain” author Dr. Caroline Leaf, be prepared to have your life changed in some way! This is definitely the case with her newest release from Baker Books, “The Perfect You: A Blueprint for Identity”. This book is for you if, as Dr. Leaf questions in the prologue, you’ve ever asked yourself:
“Who am I? Does anyone out there understand me . . . do I have purpose and meaning, a unique part in a divine plan? Does anyone understand who I am, or who I am meant to be? Do I even understand me? Can I accept the way God has allowed me to be? Do I really accept the blueprint for identity that God has given me?”
“Fear Fighting: Awakening the Courage to Overcome Your Fears”. The title alone sounds like a book worth reading, wouldn’t you agree? Written by Kelly Balarie and published by BakerBooks, this Christian Living non-fiction book is a volume that promises to help readers transform into fear fighters, and “women breaking free of trepidation to find bold dedication to God’s peace-, purpose-, and joy-filled callings”.
Without question, there are gems hidden inside the pages of “Fear Fighting” that will speak to your heart and inspire you… The only problem? For me, those gems were very few and far between. Unfortunately, the majority of the book was excessively wordy and rather boring. Continue reading
