An Exceptional, Unforgettable, Faith-Filled Journey

Have you ever found yourself in a story?  By that I mean, found a character whose struggles and questions and aspirations are so much like yours, that their story really could be your story?  This was the case for me with Kimberly Duffy’s second novel from Bethany House Publishers, entitled “A Tapestry of Light”.  This gripping tale swept me away to India, where a young woman’s entire life is turned upside down with a terrible tragedy, followed by an unbelievable discovery.

Authors of Biblical Fiction have a beautiful ability to bring well-known stories and characters to life in ways that expand our imaginations, and perhaps cause us to look at a portion of the Bible (that we may have read a hundred times before) in a new and exciting way. Tessa Afshar is a beloved author of many Biblical Fiction novels, and has now directed her knowledge and talents down a new path – as a writer for Moody Bible Studies for Women! “The Way Home: God’s Invitation to New Beginnings – A 6-Week Bible Study of Ruth” is an invitation to step into the courageous story of Ruth and Naomi as it comes to life like never before – from the pen of a fiction author. . . Like A Balm for Your Heart

Have you ever felt unimportant, unlovable, not good enough, or simply out of place? I think for just about everyone, at some point in our lives, the answer to this question is ‘yes’. In her new book entitled “Back Roads to Belonging: Unexpected Paths to Finding Your Place and Your People”, author Kristen Strong dives into the topic of belonging, exploring many of the struggles we all experience while gently reminding us of the power of relaxing into the unique role, time, place, and circumstance that God has placed each one of us. A Treasure of Keys to Unlock New Worlds – “Book Girl” is My New Must-Read Book of the Year!

Imagine a treasure chest being delivered to your doorstep one day. After staring in wonder for a moment, you carefully lift open the lid, and gasp at the treasure inside – dozens and dozens of keys! Each one is labelled with a little description of what that key will unlock, and after a moment you realize that each one is meant to open a door to a different world. Judging by the brief descriptions attached to each key, some of those worlds are places you could never imagine, and others are actually where you’ve always wanted to go. You will learn different lessons in each location, and meet different people, but always you will grow, and always you will return home a different person than when you left. Continue reading

A Journey of Fantasy

Fantasy novels are a huge leap outside of my comfort zone… There, it’s out in the open and we are all aware of it! Therefore, when I accidentally received a new fantasy novel for review from Revell, I was a little apprehensive about this unfamiliar genre. In the end, though, it was an enjoyable experience. “The Edge of Over There” was written by Shawn Smucker, and is actually a sequel to his previous book entitled “The Day the Angels Fell”. I had not read this pre-story, and while I think it would have been helpful in fully understanding the continuing saga, there was enough history sprinkled throughout the pages for newcomers to follow along as well. Every once in a while, a book comes along that impacts your life in ways both beautiful and altogether transformative. A book like this reaches deep into your heart and stirs to life parts of your soul that have long been hidden, all while challenging and inspiring your thoughts and ideas. “Dreaming with God: A Bold Call to Step Out and Follow God’s Lead” by Sarah Beth Marr is just such a book for me, and I know without a doubt that I am not the only one who will be tremendously blessed by its precious messages. Published by Baker Books and released in February of 2018, “Dreaming with God” is truly the type of book that will remain with you long after you reach the end. Continue reading

A Mesmerizing and Unforgettable Story

I just finished a most remarkable journey. This was a journey of love, ambition, grief, forgiveness, truth revealed, mistakes made and lessons learned. It was powerful, unforgettable, haunting, and in many ways it was mesmerizing. And the funny thing is, this journey all happened during the innings of a single baseball game. . . “Steal Away Home” is the name of the novel that took me on this journey. Published by Thomas Nelson in the first month of 2018, it was written by a master storyteller whose work I’ve never before had the pleasure of reading – Billy Coffey. You can be sure that while this story was my first by this amazing author, it will not be my last. Continue reading

Helping Us Become Students of God’s Word

“Deeper Waters: Immersed in the Life-Changing Truth of God’s Word” is the type of book that you will want to keep close by, on your nightstand or in your desk, because you will inevitably want to read and reference it time after time. Written by Denise J. Hughes (author of the “Word Writers” series) and published by Harvest House in 2017, this book offered so much more than I expected. Unquestionably one of the best non-fiction books I’ve read this year, “Deeper Waters” is a resource I cannot recommend highly enough. Continue reading
