My summer just would not be complete if I didn’t get my annual Karen Witemeyer western fix! (Although October now, it’s better late than never, lol!) “The Heart’s Charge” is the new addition to the “Hanger’s Horsemen” series from Bethany House, and also a novel that can be enjoyed all on its own. Interestingly, we get two separate-but-connected, equally important, romantic adventures in this single sweeping story. How cool is that?!
I love westerns, and I love Christian Historical fiction, so anything by Karen Witemeyer is an absolute must-read for me. This story was filled with all the required elements of adventure, danger, swoon-worthy and stalwart heroes, courageous heroines, and everything else that Wild West stories must entail. It also featured deep elements of faith that I really appreciated, and I found the main characters to have an inspiring and dynamic relationship with God. Rather than just an adornment, their faith proved a foundational element to the story.
Yet another reason why I adored “The Heart’s Charge” was because the roles of the children in the story were fully developed, rather than just being props to the main adult characters. This really rounded out the plot and brought it to life with so much vivacity and warmth.
As you can see, there are so many reasons why Karen Witemeyer’s newest novel is a not-to-be-missed adventure that will tug your heartstrings and fire your imagination. So pack your bags, friends, we’re heading to Texas!
