Janette Oke’s Legacy Continues

We’ve reached the end of an era, folks!  Janette Oke, along with her daughter Laurel Oke Logan, have just penned what I presume will be their last novel.  Of course only time will tell if the duo has any more stories up their sleeves, but perhaps Janette is at last ready for retirement after decades of bringing us some of the most iconic and beloved stories in the Christian Historical Fiction genre.   Continue reading

Pack Your Bags, We’re Heading to Texas!

My summer just would not be complete if I didn’t get my annual Karen Witemeyer  western fix!  (Although October now, it’s better late than never, lol!)  The Heart’s Charge” is the new addition to the “Hanger’s Horsemen” series from Bethany House, and also a novel that can be enjoyed all on its own.  Interestingly, we get two separate-but-connected, equally important, romantic adventures in this single sweeping story.  How cool is that?!

Yet Another Memorable Story From Janette Oke!

Isn’t it amazing that after so many decades of writing inspirational, faith-filled novels that have touched the hearts of readers too numerous to count, Janette Oke is still releasing stories that take you on a journey of hope and love?  Once again alongside her daughter Laurel Oke Logan, Janette gives us the sweet second story in the “When Hope Calls” trilogy, entitled “Sustaining Faith”.  Published by Bethany House Publishers and the companion story to the Hallmark television series of the name, this story is  even more compelling and heart-wrenching than the first book, “Unyielding Hope”.   Continue reading

Rich and Real and Raw

“What Momma Left Behind” by Cindy K. Sproles was a unique book in so many ways. Published by Revell in the summer of 2020, this book is set in the Appalachian Mountains in 1877, when influenza and typhoid outbreaks were running rampant in the region and left few families untouched by tragedy. Because of this setting, Cindy’s novel is definitely not a light and carefree story – but one that is inspiring and rich in historical details. Continue reading

A New Novel from Janette Oke – What Could Be Better!

It feels like a long time since I’ve read anything by beloved author Janette Oke and her daughter Laurel Oke Logan, so I was delighted to hear that they are once again releasing a new series of books from Bethany House! This time it is the “When Hope Calls” series based on the Hallmark TV show of the same name – and it is distantly connected to the “Return to the Canadian West” / “When Calls the Heart” series as well. But anyway, aside from all the connections this new story makes, “Unyielding Hope” is a lovely story in its own right! Continue reading

You Won’t Be Able to Stop Reading “The Bride Ships” Book #2!

When I pick up a Jody Hedlund novel, I expect a story that completely captivates my imagination with vivid characters, while immersing me in a unique time and place in history. She rarely disappoints. “The Runaway Bride” is the second book in “The Bride Ships” series published by Bethany House, and is at fault for causing me to read late into the night (and simultaneously wake up tired the next morning) because I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next! Continue reading

The “Canadian Crossings” Conclusion

Susan Anne Mason’s “Canadian Crossings” series wraps up with the third story in the trilogy: “The Brightest of Dreams”. Published by Bethany House, this novel brings to life the little-known and tragic history of British Home Children in Canada. At the same time it tells a story of heartache mixed with hope as two newcomers to Canada strive to make their way in a new country. Continue reading

The Concluding Story to a Memorable Series

Do you love Christian Historical Fiction? Does a London setting of 1881 sound just about perfect? And if the story is part of a trilogy, isn’t that even better? If you answered ‘yes’ to any or all of these questions, I know just the book for you! “The Artful Match” was written by Jennifer Delamere and published by Bethany House in the spring of 2019. It is the third book in a favorite series of mine, “London Beginnings”, and tells the story of the youngest of three sisters as she finds her way in the world, and discovers romance at the same time. A continuing saga in all three stories is also tied up as we finally discover once and for all what happened when the girls’ father disappeared so many years ago. Continue reading

Don’t Miss the Continuing Story of Haven Manor!

You know you are reading a book by a talented author when the words on the page form a story that is equal parts hilarious and tragic, messy and endearing. Kristi Ann Hunter’s second novel in the “Haven Manor” series from Bethany House Publishers is a close continuation of the first installment, and is entitled “A Return of Devotion”. This charming book draws you into the dilemmas of the characters from the first page, and had me scarcely able to turn the pages fast enough to discover how the heroine would get herself out of the terrible fix she was in!
