I know I’ve said it before, but I’m going to say it again – my summer would not be complete without reading a new Karen Witemeyer novel right in the middle! “In Honor’s Defense” is the latest Bethany House release from this prolific and bestselling author, and it is definitely one of my favorites. It is also the third and final story of the “Hanger’s Horsemen” saga, and so it ties up all the lose ends we’ve been wondering about.
“In Honor’s Defense” is so many things rolled into one. Yes, it is a sweet and tender love story – but it is also an action-packed adventure complete with land dealings gone wrong, an unsolved murder, and dangerous threats that come in very surprising forms. I adored the protagonist, Damaris, so much and could relate to her in many ways, and of course the hero is the infamous Luke “Preach” Davenport from past Hanger’s Horsemen stories. Add in a feisty nephew to the mix, and we have a recipe for a winning cast of primary characters!
Aside from the action, romance, and characterization of the story, Karen Witemeyer always adds such a special western flavor that is uniquely hers. Her writing comes to life so vividly, and the setting lures you in until you feel the Texas sun shining down on your skin. Aside from these rather lame descriptions, I can’t quite put a finger on what it is that makes this author’s stories so outstanding – it is almost magical! In any case, “In Honor’s Defense” is the perfect ending to a fantastic series, and I am already looking forward to next summer’s story. . . I wonder what kind of adventure Ms. Witemeyer will dream up for us next!

I love her books too. I have not read this series yet though 🙂
