Heather Holleman’s New Book Reminds Us That We Are Chosen for Christ

Heather Holleman is an author I greatly respect, as she always challenges me to think outside the box and dive deeper into some of the key verbs of Scripture. I’ve previously enjoyed her books “Included in Christ”, “Seated with Christ”, and “Guarded by Christ”, and was excited to begin her newest work from Moody Publishers entitled “Chosen for Christ: Stepping Into the Life You’ve Been Missing”. As Heather urges us, “It’s time to stop letting rejection write your story”. Continue reading

A Personal Look at Elisabeth Elliot’s First Year on the Mission Field – Guest Review by Hayley

“Made for the Journey” by renowned missionary and author Elisabeth Elliot is the story of this brave woman’s “first year in the jungles of Ecuador”.  This memoir recounts in great detail the beginning of Elisabeth’s life on the mission field.

The mission field is not for the faint of heart.  That is made abundantly clear in “Made for the Journey”.  Incredible challenges, hardships, disappointments, and cultural barriers had to be overcome in order to spread the Gospel to the remote regions of South America, and the stories in this book clearly demonstrate the perseverance required by those who are called to the difficult life of serving on the mission field.   Continue reading

A Challenging Book About Living Out Philippians 4:8

Discernment. That’s not a word that is used very often these days – or at least it’s not one that is put into practice as often as it could and should be. A new book from Moody Publishers, written by Hannah Anderson, helps readers to change this trend, and instead begin asking questions like “How can we, imperfect as we are, develop an instinct for recognizing and embracing the good?” and “How does discernment equip us to navigate a broken, complicated world with confidence and joy?” In “All That’s Good: Recovering the Lost Art of Discernment”, these questions are just the starting point on an exciting journey of new insights and challenging discussions, helping us to truly live out Philippians 4:8 which instructs us to seek truth, honor, justice, purity, loveliness, and things that are praiseworthy. A Wonderful Guide to “Adulting”!

Adulting. . .  You’ve probably heard the word, and perhaps read a humorous joke or cartoon about the concept of becoming an adult in today’s world.  But have you ever questioned how to actually ‘Adult’ (a verb) in a responsible and God-honoring way that will lay a solid foundation for the rest of your life?  Or, have you ever asked the question “I’m an adult…NOW WHAT?”  If either of these questions applies to you, a new release from BakerBooks written by pastor Jonathan “JP” Pokluda with Kevin McConaghy is definitely one that should be added to your TBR list.   Continue reading

Insecurity. It’s a topic most, if not all, of women can relate to at some point in their lives. Author and counselor Donna Gibbs’ new release from Revell Publishers wades into the discussion, helping us say goodbye to insecurity and change how we think about ourselves. “Silencing Insecurity: Believing God’s Truth About You” is a well-thought-out book that will likely inspire many readers.
