Whenever a new Romantic Suspense novel by Lynette Eason is released, it automatically goes on my TBR list. Filled with twisting and turning intrigue and spine-chilling suspense, “Called to Protect” is the second book in the “Blue Justice” series published by Revell. It tells the story of Officer Chloe St. John and her K-9 partner Hank, as well as Deputy US Marshall Blake MacCallum in his race against time to save his kidnapped daughter. The kidnapper’s only request? For Blake to commit murder if he wants to see his daughter alive again. Continue reading
Becky Wade is an amazing author whose stories sparkle with wit and whimsy, as well as characters who walk off the pages with their lifelikeness – from internal struggles to joyful triumphs and everything in between. Ms. Wade’s newest release from Bethany House is entitled “Falling for You”, and is the second full-length novel in the “Bradford Sisters Romance” series. Continue reading
I wanted to like this book; I really did. A secret heir and a rags-to-riches story set in England… Sounds great, right? “A Most Noble Heir” was written by Susan Anne Mason and published by Bethany House, but apart from a promising premise this story just had too many faults to be truly enjoyable. If you enjoy reading a compelling Biblical Fiction novel once in a while, as I do, Angela Hunt is always an author you can count on to sweep you away with her masterful writing style which brings the history of God’s people to vivid life. Her newest release from Bethany House is entitled “Judah’s Wife: A Novel of the Maccabees”, and is the second story in “The Silent Years” series (preceded by “Egypt’s Sister: A Novel of Cleopatra”). “Lady Jayne Disappears” by Joanna Davidson Politano is definitely one of the most unique stories I’ve read in 2017. Published by Revell in November, this fascinating novel also happens to be captivating and compelling, while imparting powerful messages of identity, love, and belonging. All this amounts to quite an accomplishment for a debut novel, wouldn’t you agree? Continue reading
Whenever Elizabeth Camden writes a new novel, I always look for my first chance to read it! This year I am delighted because she is releasing not one but two new stories, both from Bethany House Publishers. The first to release in 2017 is “To the Farthest Shores”, which is set in the early 1900s. In this fascinating story, so many intriguing topics are touched upon including: international spies, pearl cultivation, and the pain of betrayal and hope of forgiveness that can only come from true love. If you are looking for a fresh, inspiring new way to study God’s word, I have a wonderful suggestion for you! “His Last Words: What Jesus Taught and Prayed in His Final Hours” was written by Kim Erickson and published by Moody Publishers early in 2017. This unique book is a 7-week Bible study of John 13-17, and takes readers through these chapters verse by verse. Because of the content and focus-verses of the book, it would make a wonderful study to delve into during the Easter season.
Each chapter or “week” of this book is divided into 5 sections, effectively forming a 5-day study week. The week opens up with a brief word from the author, and then gets right into the work of the day. Each day’s assigned reading is placed, verse by verse, into a chart with space where you can easily write down what you learned from the verse, and what the Holy Spirit revealed to you as you read it.
