Great Advice – But Missing A Vital Element

“Don’t Overthink It: Make Easier Decisions, Stop Second-Guessing, and Bring More Joy to Your Life”. Doesn’t this title grab your attention immediately? It did mine, especially when I saw the author was Anne Bogel who also wrote one of my favorite non-fiction books, “Reading People”, a few years ago. Continue reading

A Beautiful New Release from Melissa Michaels

It’s no secret that I LOVE Melissa Michaels’ books. Creator of the award-winning blog “The Inspired Room”, and author of several must-have books about decorating, de-cluttering, organizing, and simply turning a house into a home, she is my favorite author in the House and Home genre. Her newest book from Harvest House Publishers is, perhaps, her best so far because it takes the idea that our dwellings, both our homes and our bodies, are intricately connected and therefore will reflect and transform each other – for good or for bad! “Dwelling: Simple Ways to Nourish Your Home, Body, & Soul” is a must-read for anyone who has enjoyed Melissa’s previous work, or is simply looking for ways to “Feel well where you dwell”! Another Powerful Book by Dr. Caroline Leaf

In my experience with opening a book by Dr. Caroline Leaf, I always receive so much more information than I knew could be held between the covers of a single volume! Her newest release from Baker Books, entitled “Think, Learn, Succeed: Understanding and Using Your Mind to Thrive at School, the Workplace, and Life” is no exception, and is in fact one of her most practical and accessible books to date. A Challenge to Find Joy – Guest Review by Hayley

“Defiant Joy” – it really does feel like we must act in defiance to the world if we are to experience joy in this life.  The mainstream society is governed by worry, fear, guilt, shame, and so many other things that stand in the way of this joy that is supposed to be the birthright of the sons and daughters within the Kingdom.

Some of my favourite books are written by John and/or Stasi Eldredge.  For this reason, I was quick to pick up a copy of “Defiant Joy: Taking Hold of Hope, Beauty, and Life in a Hurting World”, and I am very glad I did.  Continue reading

Valuable Insight, but Difficult to Wade Through

crabb_diffkindofhappinessHave you ever tried reading a book that had a strong message and worthwhile intentions, but you just couldn’t get into it? That was the case for me with Dr. Larry Crabb’s new release, entitled “A Different Kind of Happiness: Discovering the Joy That Comes from Sacrificial Love”. Without question there are many jewels of wisdom found within the pages of this book, but at times the language feels so deep and lengthy that those gems are difficult to uncover. Perhaps a slow and thoughtful reading is what is needed, with plenty of time between chapters to ponder and consider the author’s message… Continue reading
